Stopping breastfeeding
My almost 8 month has been pretty much exclusively breastfed since birth. He won’t take a bottle. He is now consistently eating two meals (breakfast+dinner) a day plus some snacks but he hasn’t reduced breastfeeding at all!!
I go back to work when he’s 13 months and I think I’ll be ready to stop breastfeeding completely by then. I have absolutely no idea what I need to do to wean him off breastfeeding?! I want this to be a gradual process and kind on both of us. He is also feeding a minimum of three times a night which I think is more for comfort. I’m sad at the thought of stopping simply because I know it’s his form of comfort, but I need to stop when I go back to work for my own mental health, sanity and in the hope night feeds will reduce. I would be grateful for any tips/shared experiences.
Thanks so much 🙏
My 8 month old has been exclusively breastfed and wouldn’t take a bottle. We introduced a weighted straw cup with cooled boiled water to try and teach her to suck from a straw, she managed to grasp this over a few weeks and now we have introduced a bottle of formula for her evening feed before bed which she does take well considering she didn’t even put it in her mouth a few months ago. Once used to the bottle, gradually replace a breastfeed with a bottle. Hope this helps x
