40 minute naps

Has anyone got any advice please? My little one is 8 months, she went through a stage between 5/6 months where she’d do a 40minute nap, 1.5 hour and then a 30 minute nap. She’s giving me all the signs that she’s ready just for two, but she can now only sleep for 40 minutes and no longer… she wakes talking and chatty but pretty grouchy after the second one. If I put the dummy back in or leave her she just screams and screams. If she only wants to do the two, she needs to get back to that 1.5 hour or even an hour otherwise she can’t make it to bed time as her happy little self. Any ideas for extending naps from 40mins?

Don’t have any advice but following because I’m in the exact same situation :(

My son has only ever napped for 30-45mins at a time xx

What worked for us was pushing the first nap to about 3 hours after baby woke up. My girl was a little fussy at times but we just tried our best to be able to distract her for the last 30ish min of her awake time. Second nap was usually about 3 1/2 hours after she woke from her first nap. Then bed time roughly 4 1/2 hours after second nap. It sounds counterintuitive but a longer wake window even after a shorter nap helps elongate the following nap.

My eldest was like this, although it was 30 mins on the dot, was so weird not a minute earlier or later. She stayed on 3 naps until she was about 15 months as a result. We did a morning, lunch and pre dinner nap (I think 9, 12/1 and 4/4.30) with a 7pm bedtime. She naturally just started extending them herself around 15 months

Stretch out her wake period. My boy is 8 months old and he naps once, maybe twice a day. He is awake from about 8:30 and then I will start getting him ready to be put to bed at about 12:30 and then I change him, feed him, burp him and then it’s about 12:50 ish and then he makes his sounds and sometimes need some butt taps, so I’d say he’s actually asleep maybe 10-20 minutes after that. He sleeps for 2 and a half to 3 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. I will do a bath at about 12:10 ish on days I shower, that way it tires him out more and then get him out around 12:30 and then the same routine. That’s his only nap he normally has a day. I make sure he does tons of tummy time, bouncing in his bouncy thing and other stuff to tire him out. His bedtime is between 7:30-8 is when my man and I start to get him ready for bed.

My first did the same thing, I think it lasted about 2 to 3 weeks then she slowly adjusted to longer naps again

Thanks so much girls, will give some of this a go! 🤞🏼☺️

My 8 month old is the same, her naps are often short! Although she has occasionally been having an hours nap lately. I usually just follow her sleepy cues rather than wake windows

8 months and he has been with 3 x 40 min (on the dot!) naps since 4 months. Sometimes he wakes up and falls asleep another 40, but not mote than once a day. At night he also wakes up every 40 min 😭😭

We are in the same boat. My girl has always done 3x30 mins. We've decided to drop a nap in the hopes she will start to go longer! So far it's been 30 mins on the first and 50mins on the second. (We've only been doing it 4 days) Her wake windows are 2.5/3/3.5 but looking at @Whittney 's commnet i may need to extend them x

I thought I was the only one my 8-month-old baby is in the same situation and now he only sleeps 30-40 minutes and doesn’t sleep anymore all day only small naps when we are in the car 🚗 to take my other little one to school and it’s a micro nap of 10 minutes or less / it’s so exhausting and more that his teeth are coming out even if he shows tiredness he doesn’t sleep because his gums hurt him he’s very irritated and he doesn’t sleep and he’s so tired.
