question for the girls who had a baby whilst living at home with your parents! 👩🏻‍🍼🩷

me n my partner live with my mum & i’m expecting my baby in july! i want to stay here because it’s cheaper & also, we have a big spare room for baby. however, i am worried that i won’t be as independent & i’ll subconsciously let my mum do everything because i’ll be tired😢 has anyone experienced this or did you still have the independence? i just don’t want to feel like i don’t know what i’m doing when we do move out within the next year or two

Honestly in the beginning , take all the help as you can get! The newborn phase is absolutely exhausting and I’m so grateful for those mornings my mom came in and took her so I could get a few hours of sleep. I breastfed so I still had to be up every 2 hours and would go get her again when it was time to feed. You can absolutely still have your independence, I personally felt so guilty asking for help in the beginning and wanted to do everything myself, but those breaks are what’s going to let you recharge and come back a better mama!

If your mom still works , then you’re still going to be the main one with your baby all day long until you go back to work! Those moments when it’s just you and baby are the times you really lean into your mom instincts and figure everything out. As long as you have a good relationship with your mom and can establish boundaries as needed, you’ll be just fine!! As my baby is approaching one , my partner and I are trying to find our place and I’m already going to miss having a babysitter right down the hall 😂😂it’s truly a blessing that not everybody is fortunate to have!

i’m in the same boat! but I realize I won’t have as much help once people are at work and it’s just me and the baby at home so i’m definitely taking it all in. some people may call it spoiling but I say it’s my village helping out 🤷🏽‍♀️

@Imani absolutely agree and I took all the help I could get. I invited my mil to stay over too to help out so really did take a village and then moved out when baby was 3m old initially struggled but then we found a routine. You'll be fine mama

I live with my parents but I do it all to the point if I had to move out tomorrow I know I would be fine , they have only stepped in if I’ve ever been really unwell and needed a bit of sleep or had to pop out for emergency supplies etc

Take the help! Lived with in laws and my MIL was amazing when I needed her but didn’t try and take over
