Mummy’s in Scotland!

Hey! So I’m in Glasgow, scotland and we have got a red weather warning for tomorrow and at first I didn’t think anything of it because it’s Scotland, when do we not have bad weather? Anyway now after the alert has came through to our phones and seeing so many people post saying power cuts could happen I’m worrying about how I’d make my girls bottles if the power does go? I only have 1 flask that I’ll keep topping up just incase but if the power does go what do I do about bottles? Shes 6M weaning so not on as many bottles but she obvs still needs her milk🫣 I’m never a worrier but people got me panicking over her milk now! Advice? Xx

@Elise all the shops are announcing they are closing tomorrow and we have been advised to stay inside as it’s a danger to life so definitely not taking my daughter out! And at this time of night I’m unable to get out to buy some as my little ones asleep, she also doesn’t take to the pre made bottles but I’d have them as a back up plus we use Kendamil so it’s so hard to find especially this last minute x

Do you premake bottles? You can up to 12 hours in advance. This would be your best option.

Bit old school but do you have a gas stovetop that you could boil water on? Or a neighbour that goes camping and has one?

@Liza was also going to suggest this! Thought too old school!

@Jazmine I’ve only ever made a bottle 1 hour in advance if we aren’t home to let it cool, but I will keep this in mind. I guess if I make it a few hours in advance it needs to stored in the fridge?

@Liza I do not, and my neighbours also don’t! They have a little one aswell so we are both looking for options! X

We've done it since really early, spoke to the hv and she said fine to do. Just cool in water before popping in the fridge.

@Jazmine thank u 🙏

If you make up bottles of formula in advance, they can be kept up to 24 hours in the fridge before they need to be thrown out. If you have no power for your fridge, do you have a cooler you could use? Bear in mind that it might be basically the same temperature outside as the fridge (below 5 degrees).

Could you get any pre-made delivered on Deliveroo or anything? We pre-made our bottles and kept in the fridge for the first 12 weeks before we got a rapid cool, never had any issues so you could do that too!

Nope unfortunately uber/deliveroo/just eat are not operating in my area! Lucky we’ve had our morning bottles and currently doing the afternoon then only have one more to make later for bed and I have my flask ready for that so I should be good if the power does go, which I’m expecting it to as thousands are without power now xx

Hope you fared well through the storm and kept power x
