What income does a single mum get if she chooses to not go back to work?

I want to stay with my baby and take care of him and not go back to work until he is at least 2 years old. What income will I be entitled to receive after my maternity pay ends? I assume I will have to claim universal credit, but what do I say to them when applying: that I refuse to work because I want to look after my baby? I am most definitely not ashamed of my choice to be a stay at home single mum. I just want to know how to go about that? xx

I'm a single mom of two my youngest is almost 2 and your not required to uptake work until your youngest is 3 years old. So you would just claim and if they ask your at home as no alternative childcare. That's it. However they will ask you to attend in person or over the phone appointments periodically. I work part time and still required to attend these.

No you don’t even say that - I’m in same boat but on couple claim now not single. But basically you’ll get standard rate of 310ish for you and 290ish for firstborn then you can also claim housing benefit and they will help toward your rent and pay for a room as you have 1 dependant (your baby) so you’ll get at least 600 a month x
