Biting

LO is 19 months. He’s still non verbal and I’m really unsure to what extent he understands. He doesn’t follow instructions ect (HV is aware) but how do you stop biting in a toddler that does not seem to listen/understand. I’ve tried putting him in his crib for a few minutes and explaining to him that biting hurts and is upsetting but it is doing nothing!

Following as my 19 month old it non verbal atm and I’m not sure what he understands either, but his thing is hair pulling 🙁

My boys non verbal and showing ASD traits … is the biting sensory.. could you offer him a chew toy

@Jess hair pulling is the main one! We’re just so used to it now as it’s 24/7 holding onto my hair as comfort! It’s so hard when you don’t know if they understand :(

@Christina we’ve tried chew toys, he’d rather throw them or hit it against things. The biting is when he’s excited mainly. He shows a lot of signs of asd also
