I just realized that this is the group for my little girl, not my big girl (4)🤦♀️. Chewable toys would still be the best option, but my little girl still tries to eat play dough lol. The answer is still to stimulate her tactile sense, and try some joint compression massage.
@Angela haha, it’s okay. Yeah my daughter definitely likes to try things in her mouth. Yet she just prefers her finger during naptime. I know it’s a habit at this point, so that’s why I want to try to find ways to make her not like her thumb 😂. Thanks for sharing anyways.
@Angela oh joint compression massage, I’ll look into it thanks!
We went through occupational therapy for this issue+ she'd pull out her hair and eat it. The underlying issue is sensory. She looking for comfort and stimulation. Denying access to the thumb will only increase her stress and create an unhealthy coping pattern. Give her plenty of sensory stimulation and give her time to mentally sink into it. For my daughter, stretchy, chewable toys like the Monkey Noodle were the best, followed by lightweight resistance bands, play dough, and kinetic sand.
