Am I weaning correctly?

My LB is 6.5 months and loves his food. I'm doing finger foods and purees. He loves it so much that he'll clear his plate and demand more. He's started turning his nose up at milk, and so is already on 3 meals a day. I'll get him booked in for a weigh in to make sure he's still on his normal trajectory, but until then, how do I know if I'm overfeeding him? He's still having about 500 mL of formula a day, plus a little bit of breastmilk.

A HV or doc will probably tell you to ease up on the weaning, at the moment the majority of nutrition should be coming from milk, weaning at this point shouldn’t really be affecting milk intake. They’d probably tell you to offer milk before food

I agree with what's been said above. Milk should be the main source of nutrition until one. At this point it's about tasting foods and learning how to eat. At 6 months they should be offered food once a day. Milk offered first then food an hour later. Introducing a second meal after 1-2 months, then a third another month later.

Gotcha, I'll ease up! He'll probably complain. When he sees us eating he's very vocal about wanting to join in!

Like above milk should be main source but babies will be babies and you can’t force feed milk if their refusing the bottle/breast. So use lots of full fat dairy products when weaning lots of yoghurts cheeses whichever milk your using breast or formula use it too cook with eg mash potatoes, white sauces, porridge.

He shouldn't be on 3 meals a day yet, agree with what's been said slow down on the weaning front (food before one is just for fun) they should still get most of their nutrition from milk x

@Tanya thanks, this is good advice.

He shouldn't be on 3 meals a day until around 8 or 9 months, really. He should still be getting most of his nutrients from his milk until he is 1.

I usually gave milk then after an hour or so I then gave food. Food for fun before 1. So I would have 1 meal for a few weeks trying different textures and flavours then add second meal for few weeks doing the same then 3rd meal by time they are 8-9 months by doing the same then some fruity snacks as they get towards 1 year. Xx
