What to do

My 2 year old is gonna be so 3 years old in March. He weighs 50 pounds , also a picky eater and I shared custody with his dad whom also has bad eating habits. I cook everyday and make healthy foods but he doesn’t like eating it sometimes. Usually prefers a snack and I only give him 3 meals and 2 snacks. But he’ll get mad if he doesn’t get one. I got a meal plan from his doctor and I’ve been following but it’s hard because idk if his dad’s side will. I don’t want him getting too big. Any suggestions?

I understand the concern, I really do, but at that age being so picky you got to feed them what they will eat. Atleast that’s my opinion. In your case I would send dad the meal plan and say this is not my orders, it’s the doctors. If he doesn’t follow it he can’t see his child, this is for his own good. My son was so tiny the doctor was contemplating steroid shots. He was still in an infant shoe at 2 years old. He’s 12 now, and he’s 5’8 180lbs. My daughter was a chunk. She looked like she had rubberbands on her arms and legs. She was done growing at 5 foot even and she’s 110 pounds and hasn’t changed since 9 years old.

Try BigLittleFeelings help with the picky eating, works wonders for people! It’s one of their highlights here https://www.instagram.com/biglittlefeelings?igsh=MTBjcGdoN3M2ZXBpMA== Also I would eliminate drinking calories, that’s easily where kids get bad calories from nowadays. You can swap to sugar free juices if they’re a juice kid and aim for plenty of water, they have fruit infused water bottles and that can be fun for toddlers to pick what fruit they want in their water which adds some flavor and often antioxidants. Also be careful with cooking oils, get rid of vegetable/canola oil. Use real butter never margarine. A good salt (redmond salt). With dad, maybe make up a box of stuff for example that he needs to switch to snack wise and give some tips…clementines, a good nut mix, dried fruit, hard boiled eggs, snacky proteins, cucumbers are all great and actually fulfilling. That’s gunna be hard to tackle with dad but all you can do is try to stress his health! Good luck mama

It's tricky when you don't have control over so many of his meals. I'd at least send the doctor's meal plan to your ex and say "I got this from his doctor, can you please try it?" Keep sticking to the plan and try to cut down on tv time as that will make it worse. Try new foods and different ways of cooking foods. Give dips and sauces with veggies. Cut juices with water. Make snacks "healthy snacks". Kids can like good foods if they aren't getting too much junk. Good luck, mama. 🍀
