Sterilising debate

So I much prefer using the Milton cold sterilising method but my partner hates the fact it’s got chlorine in so once I’ve but them in the sterlister he tips out the water and then puts hot boiling water in…….does this effect the bottles or? My LO is 8 months old

I’ll be honest, I stopped sterilising at 6 months. Because everything was in her mouth. But I used cold sterilising for dummies etc, but steam sterilising for bottles and pump parts.

To sterilise using boiling water they need to be in consistently boiling water for 10 minutes. What he is doing is not sterile. But we stopped sterilising at 6 months because she eats solids which are not sterile and also keeps licking stuff in public 🤣

It just seems like a waste of time. If he has that much time on his hands let him carry on. For those saying they stopped sterilising at 6months, it’s not about general bacteria, sterilising feeding equipment is due to the bacteria that can form from particles of formula milk. There’s a bacteria that can cause infections like meningitis in the formula that is usually killed off when added to boiling water but can occasionally regrow if any is left in a bottle so sterilising ensures all of these particles are cleaned off

Does he put boiling water in to wash the chlorine taste from the Milton pot then empty straight away? That’s what I do.. If you put a cup in Milton, shake off then make a cup of tea in it you’ll rinse with boiling water too 😖 my lg is 8 months and never been unwell from me rinsing from the kettle.

@Ceri-Ann we don't give formula we give breast milk ✌🏼 I would sterilise longer otherwise

@Ceri-Ann same for me I breast feed so whatever she has it’s from the tap, and when does have a bottle, it’s just washed up
