I didn't but everyone told me to avoid as it doesn't do anything but make you feel high. I did gas and air/paracetamol and tens machine. Really recommend. I had to have an epidural after the birth for surgery and I honestly hated it. I was numb for weeks after.
Was rubbish for me too
Ohhhh this is pointless, I had this with my first baby and ended up with gas and air! My second baby is had an epidural- God send! My 3rd Au natural we just made it to the hospital 🤣
I haven’t had one but I’ve heard from many others it just made them really sick x
I had this and found it excellent. I had a very long labour so it allowed me to sleep for a couple of hours. Did make me feel quite out of it, but also made the pain manageable.
I had it with my first born after contracting for 2 days but stuck at 1cm and I had 2 sleepless nights! Worked great for me and allowed me to get some much needed sleep! Did end up having epidural in the end though as my labour wasn't progressing and was still at 1cm until after the epidural 😅
I was given pethadine, it knocked me out (felt like I was drugged feeling if that makes sense) to the point I barely remember much after being given it. I couldnt even go toilet alone and needed help being taken to the bathroom and was not allowed to lock the door. I was given an anti sickness injection with it x
I just gave birth to my second. I had pethidine and gas and air the first time and just the gas and air this time. The pethidine did help because it made me really sleepy so I was very much out of it for a while of the labour which kind of helped mask the pain. I don’t remember a lot from my first labour and i think that is also due to the pethidine. My second labour though, i remember it all and kind of wish I didn’t. Wasn’t the worst labour, quite similar to first, shorter even, but i can remember exactly how it all felt which I would prefer not to lol. Overall i think it is a decent pain relief if you need more than gad and air but want to avoid an epidural. I would advise to maybe take it earlier rather than when you are very close to 10cm as it can cause baby to be a bit sleep when born which can impact feeding.
I hated it. It made me sleep between contractions but I was so out of it I wouldn't believe it when they told me I'd been asleep so it just felt like one long contraction with no respite until it wore off.
I had pethidine. It did nothing for the pain, but made me extremely tired and so I couldn’t even open my eyes the whole time I laboured. I also have blanks of what happened during labour because of how out of it I was. Would never have it again!
Ask if your hospital has remifentanyl, much shorter acting so if you don't like it it wears off quickly. And because it fades so quickly it doesn't effect the baby as much when they come out. With pethidine they can sometimes come out sleepy if it's given too close to birth
I had pethidine and gas & air! Pain wise it made the labour manageable I didn’t find it painful. The only thing is i think it made me sick. I had a water birth and little one came out a little bit lethargic due to the pethidine which no one warned me about and scared me!! This is however a side effect to be aware of, also my arm was pulsing for days after which I put down to the injection. If I was to do it again would just use gas and air
I had pethidine, loved it and will be using it with future pregnancies.
Just made me tired lol
Absolutely rubbish didn’t do a single thing for me
