Breakfast

How long does it take your baby to eat solids breakfast? Do you offer milk first or food first? I’m thinking as she approaches 12 months, I should offer food first.

Milk first then food about 30mins/1hr later x

We do breakfast around 30 mins after wake up. I use to breastfeed the first feed of the day and one day she just decided she didn’t want it but would eat up a whole breakfast, so we dropped it. This was the first one we dropped 🙂

@Ellie and how long does solids breakfast take?

It depends, she either has toast or porridge. If it’s toast it’ll take 20/30 mins but if it’s porridge that I feed her about 10/15 x

Milk first say 7am And food around 7:50/8

@Hayley will you swap around at any point?

Well tbh I don’t know. Lots on this group have dropped bottles too- I didn’t plan to? I think I’ll always do milk first til she is 1 as it’s quick and convenient & she’s gone 12hrs without a drink. I have a tea before breakfast myself too 😉

@Hayley ah ok. She would have water with breakfast though? So would get a drink then is my thinking.

@Amber good to know. I’m thinking I may do breakfast first soon. She starts nursery early March. And the rush of doing milk. Wait 45 mins then breakfast seems long. As I dress her after breakfast too as it’s messy. Where as if I give her breakfast first. Dress then milk. It feels like it could work better. As milk is quick and way less messy. Do you supplement as your breastfeeding? Vitamin D etc. Hers is in her formula currently.

I only give with lunch and dinner as she finishes her 7oz at breakfast 🍼

Milk first then breakfast 30mins to an hour later, I feed her weetabix so it takes 10 minutes.

@Hayley I see. I offer water with all her meals regardless. She loves a swig of water.

I’ve done this for nursery days - breakfast after nappy change in the morning (takes about half an hour), get dressed, milk before nursery (half hour) and drop off for 8:30-9:00. The whole process is like an hour 😭

@Nikita I’m thinking this is what I need to do to make it manageable to make nursery for 8:30am

We do breakfast for 7.30, first milk of the day is at 9am before his morning nap. Totally different to my first who wanted milk as soon as she woke until she was 2. I’ve gone with 7.30 breakfast as that’s what he will have at nursery, he won’t contemplate milk at all first even if he wakes at 6am x

I do milk once she wakes then breakfast around 30mins later. She generally always feeds herself and it can take up to 40mins but gives me time to clean kitchen, wash dishes etc.

Milk then food for us. I wake up and offer breast then we go down for breakfast after I've spent 30 minutes deciding to actually move. Porridge she will take anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes to eat (spoon fed because otherwise i have to clean the floor and pordige is not fun to clean up). Toast anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes.
