HSG

Does anyone have any positive HSG stories? My HSG will be next month and I’m absolutely petrified, all I’ve seen is negative videos about the pain. What has everyone’s experiences been? And did you manage to conceive after the HSG test? I’ve read that it can better your chances to conceive if your tubes are clear. Thanks x

One of my close friends has very recently conceived after 4y+ trying and a few months after her HSG. Both her tubes were closed, they managed to successfully pass fluid through the left side. She did say it was quite painful.

I had a HSG more than a year ago. I have endometriosis and it was extremely painful- almost fainted after the procedure. I was only advised to take painkillers before and had taken a double dose. Perhaps you can speak to your doctor in advance to see if they can offer other pain relief? It didn’t help me conceive but a friend also did it around the same time and now has a baby.

@Chloe thank you x

@Kate thank you, do you mind me asking what type of pain it is? It is like period pains or sharp pains just trying to mentally prepare 🥴 x

I had a HSG last year. It was painful while in progress. For me it was a pressure pain. It felt like my insides were full and if they had used any more fluid something might have burst. But that lasted about a minute. tops, and after that there was no pain. My Dr reccomended taking paracetamol an hour before the procedure so that may have dulled the pain a little. Overall it was one of the more unpleasant procedures, but not intolerable. The test didn't help for us, still ttc now, but it did show that one of my tubes was infected, so I needed surgery to remove it.

I don’t want to scaremonger but for me it was a very sharp pain which just increased until the procedure finished. Afterwards I was fine although very fainted for 30 mins after. Everyone is different but I would recommend a double dose of painkillers if you are told to take them orally.

However I have endometriosis and I read that the pain can be worse for those with this condition

I had one done back in sept , was not painful during the procedure just felt uncomfortable and like a little peroid pain. I left the clinic I was ok but once I got home I felt like I was going to pass out I had to take painkillers, hot water bottle and have a nap after I woke up I was totally fine . Turnt out everything was fine no blockages etc but still TTC 🤷🏽‍♀️
