Does the 12 week scan check for Down’s syndrome and other chromosomal disorders under the NHS as standard? I’ve not had my scan yet

Yes, downs syndrome and edwards syndrome
Personally I’ve decided to not have it. If there are any abnormalities that become obvious on a scan they will still tell me, but I know how anxious I can be, I’d rather not get in my head with percentages and worry, when a lot of babies are born fine even though they were considered high risk.

They will measure the nuchal fluid behind babies neck, that along with your bloods and age etc will give you your chances of downs, Edward’s and pataus, you’ll get a letter in the post within a couple of weeks… NIPT isn’t offered on the nhs (possibly some areas are trialling it) if you want an actual NIPT test done tho you will usually have to pay private x
