Advice please?

Backstory - I had gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and PROM, I give birth at 34 weeks I’m currently 9 weeks + 4 days and had my first appointment with my consultant, who measured my cervix and realised it’s actually shorter than normal so has recommended a stitch… has anyone had this done? She’s hoping to do it when I’m 13 weeks I’m scared… she said it could cause bleeding or she could break my waters….

I lost my first baby at 22 weeks due to cervical incompetence and placental abruption. I had my beautiful rainbow baby in September last year after having a cervical stitch placed at 16 weeks. All procedures have risks but the benefits outweigh the risks in this case. The earlier you have the stitch placed, the lower the chance of rupture of membrane as your cervix is still fairly long and closed. Bleeding is normal after the procedure but it’s more like light spotting which only lasts a few days. I had my stitch removed at 36+4 and was induced at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia, but the stitch allowed me to maintain a normal life without the worry of losing another baby. I will be having a stitch done for every subsequent pregnancy.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience ❤️ even just reading that has giving me reassurance! I didn’t know of anyone who had it done so thank you honestly! She did say that she would be ok if I had a 34/35 weeker, she just doesn’t want it to be earlier! I must have been delusional it never dawned on me I could have a baby earlier! Thank you again ❤️

You’re very welcome! If you need any more information on the procedure itself or recovery post it and removal etc, feel free to message me, I’m happy to answer any questions you may have and hopefully put you at ease 🙏🏽I would also recommend joining the Facebook group „pregnant with cerclage”- so many ladies tell their stories and experiences of having the stitch and also the different types of stitches ❤️
