Cows Milk and bottle amount

Had our 9-12 month HV check for my 11 month old she’s 12 month 21/2. She isn’t the best eater. She likes Greek yogurt, LOVES raspberries, toast and mainly finger foods. Hates anything mashed and also not a big fan of hot food so it’s always on the cooler side. Anyway I would say she has 2 meals a day as dinner is hit and miss. She had 3 bottles (formula) only 6ozs and sometimes a bottle in the night. So I’m guessing 4 bottles a day. Which I didn’t think was too much. However she’s on the 98tg percentile for weight, she’s a long baby 78 cm so her weight is quite spread out. The HV said need to only give her 2 bottles and (half) which I didn’t get what she meant. Also of Cows Milk, she wast worried about her weight cause she said when she’s walking it will drop off. Anyway I brought some cows milk yesterday to give her a try on and she doesn’t like it I’ve warmed it in a cup and I’ll see how I get on. However what if she doesn’t like it do I stop milk altogether next month or do I good follow milk?

My lo doesn't like warm milk so we give it cold But I honestly do not know If we can just stop giving them any milk sorry xx

I’m not stopping now, it would be after she’s 1. However I’m asking what if she’s hated cows milk. Tbh I don’t drink cows milk. I have oat milk and I wouldn’t drink it now. So I don’t want to force her to drink something I don’t.

@Stephanie to be honest I'd stay if my baby didn't like it I wouldn't give it to her I absolutely hate cows milk couldn't think of anything worse to drink x

Sounds very similar to my boy. My boy will be one on 13th Feb. I would say his main food is still milk-formula, he loves raspberries and grapes, toast with avocado spread and will have a bite of meals that we have two three bites and he is done…. Refuses to be spoon fed…he might have a spoon or two of yogurt but then he is done again. So I still count milk as his main food. He does have 3 bottles a day of formula and breastfeeding twice at night time. I keep offering him food and slowly his interests improving as at 10months old he was not interested in food at all… I’m thinking to introduce plain milk but not planning to stop giving him formula until his eating improves

My first didn't like it when I gave her a cup of cows milk on its own the first time, so I mixed with formula - starting 4oz formula and 2oz cows milk for a few days, then 3oz of each mixed, then 2oz formula and 4oz cows milk mixed, and finally 6oz cows milk, and she was fine with it by then! Maybe took 1.5-2 weeks as I went slowly, given her first reaction. Think it just tastes a bit weird when they've been so used to just drinking formula so far, so takes some getting used to. My 3 year old often still prefers boiled potatoes to mashed potatoes, so I sometimes take some out for the kids, before mashing ours!

🙄 Health visitors always wana tell people to stop giving their babies milk as if its compulsory. If you bub is not ready to drop down to 2 bottles then dont. If shes bot eating 3 meals and 2 snack then dont. Her weight is fine! You do whats best for your princess. Theres also filtered cows milk if you're worried about the taste, you can try making half formula half cows milk. You can try oat milk too, Also you can try give it in her bottle. Milk is comfort and if its normally in a bottle then she might not enjoy the milk in a cup. And what? how are we managing to get the baby to eat toast cause my son won't even try it!? My son will not even eat breakfast lol he has 2 meals a day and snacks of fruit and light busicits like crackers, wafers or rice cakes. My son is CMPA so we wont give him cows milk hes 1 on saturday. He will stay on formula, aptimil pepti 2 for his milk. We will mix this with a touch of lactose-free milk or oat milk depending on how he progresses.

My boy is 1 next week and I started to drop an ounce of formula in each bottle and top up with cows milk, this week I'll drop another ounce to put in more cows milk until its just cows milk in a few weeks. That's how I did it with all my kids. X

Louise - did you do that for every bottle in the day?

@Lina my little girl was born 13th feb little pancake day twins. If my little girl doesn’t like cows milk I’m just keeping her on formula. She gets offered 3 7oz bottles a day, drinks the first and last one but the midday bottle is his and miss. She likes food but is very much a snacker and not a full meal baby.

Hi Stephanie, my girl turned 1 few days ago and first day I gave cows milk she absolutely noticed the difference after two sucks and didn’t take it but I didn’t want to just give up and give fully formula. So I did 1.1 ratio and she has same amount as your lo. So I gave 3oz of formula and then 3oz cows milk and she took to it. It’s a slower transition that HV’s suggest too. So you could try this out and then slowly you can reduce the amount of formula. But remember to this method you do boiled hot water 3oz and then formula scoops (per your formula’s guidelines) and then you add your full fat cows milk. Hope this helps!!

Hi all thanks for the suggestions: I’ve done 6oz of formula then topped up with cows milk as she’s drinking it I think I will reduce this in a week or so. She’s been trumping a bit more dunno if the milk or not. The next thing I’m tackling is the 2nd nap. She’s refusing point blank, so don’t know if you bring forward bed time to 6:30 maybe she’s goes down at 7:30. Without her 2nd nap between 4pm till bed is a nightmare 🥲😄
