Low Papp-A

Good Morning, I am 12 weeks 3 days with my 4th pregnancy and today found out I have low Papp-A at 0.31. I have never had this before I am freaking out, I have looked on google and they say baby could miscarry in the second trimester which the hospital letter does not say! I’m terrified of something bad happening. Please give me some reassurance girls and advice xx

Hey! Don’t scare yourself by looking online, speak to your midwife to put your mind at rest. I’m low Papp-a and I’m nearly at the end of my second trimester and all has been ok so far. they’ll likely just put you on aspirin and schedule additional growth scans just to make sure your placenta is performing. It’s not as scary as it looks and I wish I hadn’t googled it when I first found out! Good luck xx

I’m 17 weeks today and also have low pap at 0.28. I was told after my screening too. The first thing I done was google it but this is easier said than done but try not too. My midwife reassured me not to worry and they will keep a close eye on baby after 28 weeks, more scans etc. It may be worth asking if you’re going to need to take Aspirin x 🩷

Hey! I had the same. I had to aspirin throughout my pregnancy and had additional growth scans. With low Papp-A you are more likely to get preeclampsia, so make sure you know the symptoms x

I had it and everything was ok I actually think a lot of people have it, but it is scary though x

i had low papp-a at 0.18 and we were affected in pregnancy. the first thing to know is most people who have it won’t see any effect of it, but we experienced a drop in growth in the third trimester. we had increased scans and monitoring weekly to check how things went and at 38 weeks i was induced because it felt safer to have her out. i had a small but perfectly healthy little girl! born at 5lbs8oz so 2nd centile here. she’s growing well and hitting all her milestones and 8 weeks on is doing so well. biggest thing is it’s a risk factor not a diagnosis and even when it does have an effect, it’s not something that can’t be helped!

Hey! I had my low PAPP-A baby nearly 4 weeks so (0.3 MoM). There wasn't a single issue throughout the pregnancy with blood flow, growth, or blood pressure, or anything else. Baby girl was born 8lbs 2oz at 39+6 - lovely swift labour. So it doesn't necessarily have any impact on the pregnancy or baby. 😊 Just another story to hopefully reassure you. x

@Jennifer thank you, I’m such a worrier so getting this news hasn’t helped but fingers crossed it will all be fine x

@Paige the letter I received said too so I guess I should?

I’m 35 weeks with low PAPP-A at 0.35. I’ve been taking 150mg of aspirin every day since 12 weeks as per my NHS letter. Everything has been fine, baby is a bit small at 18th percentile. I have my final extra scan next week, it’s been lovely watching them grow

I had low PAPP-A and I’m also a huge worrier! We had scans every 4 weeks from 20 weeks and then every 2 weeks from 32 weeks. It was scary because I didn’t like having to mentally prepare for scans all the time but actually end result was absolutely fine. My daughter was born 42 weeks after an induction, perfectly healthy and no growth issues whatsoever. I’m actually very glad I had the extra scans as the scan at 28 weeks I got the most lovely image of her face and it’s exactly what she looked like ❤️ so try to reframe it that you’ll get to see your baby more times before you meet them fully!

@Charlotte this is exactly how I feel, I hate scans because I prepare for the worst but once it’s over i am so reassured, it’s such mixed feelings!

@Kyra 💜 I’m the same literally! We’re having an early gender scan on Thursday, I’m feeling nervous but once I know everything is okay I’ll be excited. So I’d ring antenatal to see when you can collect your prescription. They may call you when it’s ready anyway, but just to get one step ahead x Mine was a bit different … the letter didn’t suggest I needed to take aspirin but a random phone call from antenatal yesterday called me to say my prescription is ready 😬 I do feel better now it’s been prescribed though 🩷

I’m not sure if they will, I might send an email to my midwife and check

Hey girl, I had this with my pregnancy and now have a happy and healthy 8 month old. It just means that you will need extra scans to monitor babies growth. I was told my baby will be very small and he weighed 7 pounds. Don't be anxious at all, just follow the advice given by your midwife. I took 150mg of aspirin daily until the day I gave birth cxx

Hi sweet! I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I have low pappa. Don't stress yourself out. They'll give you a prescription of asprin to take daily and you'll have further scans. I've had no issues at all x

Thank you. Just picked up my prescription. @Kyra 💜 yeah defo get in contact with them to ask and keep on top of it x

I had low Papp-A with my first. It's just a risk factor and I spent my entire pregnancy worrying when I wish I hadn't! He was born almost 2 weeks overdue at 8lb 4oz x

Hi, I had low papp-a with my little boy and pregnancy was fine up until 30 weeks. I developed pre-eclampsia and was admitted to hospital. At 34 weeks the doppler scan showed abnormal blood flow so he was delivered then. He was a tiny 3lb 5oz but was born healthy and needed a 10 day stay on neonatal ward to establish feeding. He has just turned one and is the happiest little guy, but is still small. His dad and I are small though, so he was never going to be a big baby. I know the majority of people have perfectly normal, full term pregnancies. Definitely clue yourself up on the symptoms and if you have any concerns contact your midwife as they absolutely dont mind checking you over for peace of mind. I didn't have the typical pre eclampsia symptoms at first, I felt generally unwell (I had a cold and put it down to that) and my eyes/face went puffy- again put it down to normal third trimester effects! Wishing you all the best, and honestly try not to worry. You will be given lots of checks xx

Just wanted to say this is not guaranteed to mean you will have any problems… mine was 0.21 (very low), first pregnancy and I had a little boy at 39+5 at 8lb 1oz. He was measuring above the 75th centile the whole time with absolutely no issues. I enjoyed the extra scans in the third trimester for reassurance

Mine was 0.27 and my pregnancy was completely healthy and normal. The only thing was I had high blood pressure day of and after c section which I needed medication for about a month. (C section was booked at 39 weeks because she was breech nothing to do with blood pressure but in hindsight probably best if blood pressure was starting to rise. It had been normal at every appointment up until then) so that was pretty scary because it did get very high and I have been fit and healthy and active my whole life. Although blood pressure apparently can go haywire after birth anyway as it can be affected by changing hormones etc … that’s the only thing negative in my pregnancy that might be attributed / connected to low Papp-A. Xx Ps she was also a very normal healthy weight
