Speech

My son is saying around 30-40 words and putting words together. We read loads and practice words etc. However we’ve noticed he can’t make certain sounds for example a ‘L’ sound so for light he says bight or ight, and our dog is called Bella and he’ll say Beya. And the ‘w’ sound so for water he says bater. Just wondering if this is totally normal and it will come overtime and if anyone’s elses little ones say a different sounding word that is supposed to be a different word? Or can’t make certain letter sounds?

Totally normal

Give it time most toddlers aren’t expected to make all the sounds until after 3 years the speech therapists I spoken with most won’t take kids until they are 3 because of this x

Very normal! X

my daughter can't say l properly either! she does the time call on bake off and says '1 minute yeft' 🤣🤣🤣

I think totally normal. My son gets L wrong a lot and gets P and B mixed up in some words.

Thanks ladies! Very reassuring x

So happy I came across this post! My toddler is right there with yours!

Definitely normal. I would class my little girl as having quite advanced speech as we can have full conversations and her vocab is amazing, but there’s definitely a few letters she struggles with. “Yellow” is “yeyow”, and “lunch” is “hunch”, “right” is “yight”. Pretty cute, I’ll miss it when she can pronounce everything correctly. We still use funny words for things that my nephew used to say when he struggled with his speech due to hearing problems. He’s just turned 13 and we just had a conversation yesterday about why he is the reason we say, “gingos” instead of “fingers” when my sister, mum and partner and having a conversation and it comes up. He was oblivious because his speech is perfect now thanks to having grommets fitted (3 times!). He had his own little language 🤣 x

Very normal. Our toddler says "Wi-ow" instead of Willow for our dog and "hungy" instead of hungry. Also love how she says penguin right now - "kim-kim!"
