I know some family will prefer to use pull ups during this process but I have personally never done this. I don’t see the point and find it counterproductive since you’re trying to get them to stop using a diaper in the first place. Again—this is just my opinion with no facts or evidence behind this on my end. I just go straight to underwear and that’s it.
I use pull up on my 3 yr old but lately I been 🤔g about trying underwear cause he don't like mess or messy stuff touching him so I think this method might help my autistic son. It's been a hit n miss lately.
@S. annalese I like your opinion
My autistic son was the easiest! I did start him late I potty trained him when he was four. I did the naked method for him where he has nothing on his bottoms and just has an oversized shirt on. We have hardwood floors down stairs and he had one accident and he realized he didn’t like the feeling of pee splashing back up on his legs. Ever since he would go right to the potty and didn’t have an accident again. Good luck to you, I’m starting to potty train my youngest here soon.
My sons has ASD and I speech delayed and we completed this in 3 days: Firstly, make sure your kid is familiar with the bathroom. “Toilet” “soap” “sink” ect. It sounds stupid but being familiar with an environment can make a task easier. Let your child flush the toilet. A lot of kids (ASD or not) can be frighted by the sound of a flush or stress about “where the poo or pee is going”. Understand your child and create a reward system based on what motivates them, no what the internet tell you is a good reward. My son doesn’t give a rats ass about stickers and candy. . But he likes iPad time, bubbles and me dancing like a fool. So when he would do the do I would provide these as rewards as a “good job” feedback”. What’s your child favorite drink: get a lot of it. Stay home all day for 3-4 days and just let them enjoy a much of that drink as they want. It encourages them need to go more. This is just my feeling/ opinion: no tiny toilet. Just make your child use the standard toilet
