C section

I’m almost 5 weeks pp and I still have swelling around my c section incision. When is it supposed to go down? Does anyone have a flat scar yet from a late December c section?

I had mine 12/23 and it’s still slightly swollen and flares up and gets worse. I also get random pains and my nerve pain is still pretty bad. I’m hoping it clears up soon

I had a C-Section 6 weeks ago and the significant swelling went away after a week. My doctor had me come in at 2 weeks to check to make sure it was healing properly and no swelling. I would reach out to my OB as I'm not sure if it's still suppose to be swollen.

@Parisa same! I had my daughter 12/23 stil have swelling & pain at times depending on my movement.

12/12 and no swelling here - swelling was down within a day or two of coming home. The thickness under the scar has started to diminish quite a bit, but still feels like a bit of a sausage down there. I did daily icing once I got home and for the first couple of weeks, which may have helped!

@Claire that was probably really smart to do that! I was pretty much up moving around leaving the house after the first day I got back home which I’m sure my doc will be upset about but arguably I feel like it helped me have severe pain for a less amount of time

@Kiara it’s not significant swelling and the incision itself is healing good. It’s just not a flat scar yet, it tucks under so I’m trying to figure out if that’s swelling, needing to lose pregnancy weight still, or the way they stitched me up

@Claire that’s kinda what I mean. Maybe it’s not swelling but i dont know what else to call it🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s just thick above the incision & a little tucked under the skin, like it’s not flat

@Lia I wouldn't worry about it because that sounds normal but definitely ask if you're concerned. I was told as long as it's not oozing, hot to the touch, or significantly swollen it is doing okay!

@Lia ah! My doctor said it could take up to a full year for it to go away… I massage with my hands and with a gua sha stone at least once a day and it’s really helped. I press pretty hard but not enough to cause pain

@Claire does it not hurt when you massage it? I saw your supposed to start at 6 weeks but my nerve pain is so bad it hurts just to touch the area let alone massage it

@Claire when did you start the massage? I can lightly touch the area & rub upwards but I haven’t really massaged yet

@Parisa my doctor recommended exactly this! Taking it easy but definitely getting up and about and going on walks immediately!

@Lia maybe 5 weeks ish? After incision looked 100%. You’d definitely be safe at 6 weeks after you’ve had your follow up

@Parisa to me it doesn’t hurt at all, but I don’t have nerve pain, I have some numbness and tingling in that. Even gentle massage would be helpful!! I’ve heard the nerve pain eventually goes away / your body just accepts that it is there. My doctor said that whatever it feels like after one year is basically what you’re stuck with

Had mine on 12/5 and my body is still hanging onto the glue haha! I didn’t really have swelling, just the nice little shelf. Hoping PT will help that and then some scar massage

Does anyone some of their stitch on the outside? I’ve left it alone but I had assumed it would’ve dissolved by now

@Parisa I do! Just on the sides where they tied it off

12/19 and completely healed. I’d schedule an appointment, especially if you’re uncomfortable/ in pain.

@Kristen mine was doing this as well! You can just peel it off!
