Epidural Mamas

How long did it take to get your epidural at the hospital? I’m prepping my mind to give birth to baby boy #3. I’ve done this before but can’t help but think about the pain I’ll have to endure before getting the epidural. 😓 I’m preparing to implement some pain coping mechanisms. But anyway, how long did it take for you to get your epidural?

Waters broke at midnight, contractions became unbearable around 4am, to was adamant on doing it myself but began labouring in my back and my whole back seized up and I couldn’t move at all and had no longer worked 5 hours in I was sky high on my epidural 5 hours after that I was holding my baby 😮‍💨

Until the contractions in my back and while I could move around I found a labour comb really helpful!

Hours and hours. I cried and begged. They finally got them to come and I sat up, they got it in and I needed to start pushing so absolute waste of time because it didn’t get chance to work

I chose to try a bit without it, and when I asked, they gave it within 1 or 2 hours

Got my watered broken at 9pm , I’m labour straight away from 9pm they was getting really strong around 12noon so I asked for it and got it at 1pm and had my daughter at 16.21 but my epidural didn’t work for me I still felt everything x

I asked for it as soon as I went in lol. And kept asking and asking for it. I was induced so they didn’t give it to me until I needed it. But I’m glad o kept asking for it even though it was too early bc there was only one anesthesiologist available and I had to wait in line. I only experienced the pain in the beginning for a few hours. Good luck!

Oh I ended up with a c-section

I guess it's different depending on where you are and whether an anaesthetist is ready...but I had gas and air as soon as I was on labour suite so that sorted pain until I got the epidural 🤷‍♀️ Didn't feel a thing when they put the epidural in too.

@Amanda that’s not what OP was asking. I’m sure she’s aware that you don’t have to get an epidural

Once I asked for it it took 1.5 hrs for them to get to me to give me the epidural. By that point I was suffering and in excruciating pain from back labor and it had been 32 hrs of labor. My suggestion is to ask for it before you feel you need it because having to wait once you need it is awful.

Had to ask and got it within 1-1.5 hr or so. My partner helped in reminding me to ask EARLY on if I felt I wanted it, just in case they were down to one anesthesiologist (which has been the case both times) and we’d have to wait a while. Unfortunately my second time around the epi wasn’t placed properly at first and they had to place it again. Miserable waiting that additional hour, but once it worked ooooh boy that was a relief.

I typically wait until I’m close to the end, when the pain gets really exhausting, so I went to the hospital each time when I was 5 mins apart and then got the epidural for each like 4+ hours later
