Loss of appetite

Anyone else have any issues regarding not having an appetite? My midwife basically said that I’m not eating enough calories and my baby is getting the equivalent of a salad rather than a roast dinner because my milk isn’t fatty enough, he was one week old yesterday and has been having like 60-90mls every 3-4hours but still fusses as if he’s hungry and she said it’s because he’s not satisfied by my milk but that I can’t really offer more due to his stomach being small still. Anyone have any tips/tricks to increase my appetite? I’ve purchased full fat dairy, switching to fattier foods and added more protein to my diet but not sure what else I can do or when I’ll notice a difference?

honestly i was the same! i didn’t eat too much for about a month or so then i started getting it back! i wouldnt worry too much as long as you are having your 3 meals a day ! , if you are worried you could maybe try a mixture of formula too ? i did that for a month then i went back to just breastfeeding

How is babies weight gain? I didn’t eat to much in the beginning and my baby had a hard time gaining weight, but we also just had a hard time figuring out the whole breast feeding thing.

@Sarah he was 9lb11oz when born and dropped to 9lb5oz on his first weigh in which they were happy with as it was a 5% loss but he hasn’t been reweighed as of yet!

@Daisy that means baby is doing good. It is normal to have up to a 10% drop in weight. My daughter went down almost a whole pound (6lbs 12oz to 5 lbs 13oz). They had us go in for daily weigh ins for the first week and a half of so. If you are worried you can request a nurse visit weight visit.

And also my baby ate every 1.5, which is common with breast fed babies as the milk digests faster than formula. Feed your baby on demand vs. being scheduled. Not all lactation consultants are great. You can always try to find a different one
