Early labour planned C Section ?! What’s the process ?!

Has anyone in the UK gone into labour earlier than your elective C-section date and then been made to wait?!Would they prioritise me and arrange an emergency c section or force me to wait for my labour to progress ?!

I went in to triage today because I thought my waters had gone and they told me that they wouldn’t offer me a c-section because my trust doesn’t like to do them before a certain gestation (39 weeks) obviously unless it’s an emergency and baby needed to come out! They might offer you an earlier one depending on the reason for your section? Like if baby is breach or something xx

Depends what the c section is for... I think if it's due to medical reasons then it will be an emergency, but I think also if you are planned a section and go into labour you ring them and they will tell you go in and do emergency one... But it's upto you if you wanted to go along with the labour or go for the section... Again depending on reason behind the c section

I went in to labour the day before my elective section. I called the labour ward and they told me to go in for 7:30am. They said they’d have to examine me to see how dilated I was, and that other women on the ward were waiting for c sections so we’d have to see who was priority. I was 4cm dilated and because I didn’t want to be in active labour, I was put to the top of the list and was first in. Baby girl was born at 11am on the dot. Unless there is someone already on the labour ward that’s an emergency, I think you’ll be put to the top of the list

Hi second baby here! If you go into labour whilst waiting for a planned c section you go to hospital and are an emergency case. You being in labour doesn’t change your right to give birth via c section. I did my consent today for my c section and signed a piece of paperwork stating if I went into spontaneous labour I was still going to deliver via c section

They would bump you up on the list for an “emergency”. However, I was told if I was fully dilated or close to giving birth then risks might be too high for a c section and that would be a conversation for that day

I was warned if I go into early labour it would be classed as an emergency but I do think it all depends on circumstances. I had an emergency cat 1 c section Jan 24 so they’re concerned about me trying vaginally but have said if I wanted to try I’m well within my rights.

I had a planned c section mostly because my baby was breach and we didn’t like the idea of turning him. I went into labour 2 days before, my water broke in my sleep and I lost my mucus plug the moment I woke up. I had my pre op appointment that same day but I went straight into triage. They put me down as an emergency c section and within 3 hours to the dot of being admitted he was born

My waters went 36 weeks with my boy and I had a c section bang on 37 weeks as no labour started. If your waters go and labour starts you can have a c section no matter the gestation but if no labour they will keep the baby in until 37 weeks

@Laura I remember looking into c section delivery, and this was running through my mind. God can you imagine pkanning a c section, then being told ‘oh no just push instead’. Sounds like the stuff of nightmares

Thanks so much everyone for answering my question! So hopefully labour doesn’t come early and progresses quickly and I can have the c section. Couldn’t agree with @Tina more. Imagine planning for the c section and they tell you sorry no it’s time to push! Defiantly the thing of nightmares and that’s exactly why I’m having so many panic attacks thinking about it! Aghhhh!

My waters broke and labour started 5 days before my scheduled section. I went into hospital and they asked me if I still wanted the c-section or if I wanted to progress naturally, I said section so they went to check the schedule and fit me in in the afternoon as an "emergency but non emergency". Actual emergencies will always come first which means you will have to wait but if they can do it, they will x

My waters went 5 days before my elective section (baby was breech and my health board doesn’t regularly do breech births vaginally). Went in at 7pm, baby was born 8am as emergencies came before us. Had to go through 10 hours of contractions without pain relief, but other than that was smooth sailing ❤️

@Lucy omg you had to wait ten hours in labour after your waters had broken ! That’s so scary! You could have been forced to birth vaginally at that point! That’s my biggest fear. I can’t imagine preparing for a c section the whole time and being made to Wait in labour for that long and then they tell you it’s too late to have a c section. 🤯 I’m also so fearful of tearing I know so many people who have had a vaginal and torn pretty badly! Especially as they had never had a natural birth before like myself !

I went into labour at 39+2 with my first and c section was scheduled for the following day. I was told to hold off through the night and go in as planned the next morning. The next morning I was in so much pain and 9cm dilated. It then became an emergency c section and a stressful experience so no matter what ring them and make sure you go in. I don’t have a date for this time around but fearful the same will happen
