Birth to 5 matter/EYFS happy to discuss anything if your worries?
Thanks everyone! Sorry only just been notified of replies now! 😕 Is that assessment a bit open to interpretation? Sometimes the targets seem a bit random and not following a specific order/sequence? Xx
Erm, kind of- the curriculum isn’t inclusive of every skill or piece of knowledge that the children will be developing, and observations and assessments are somewhat subjective just due to the nature of the eyfs. But, I would expect to see targets that are either lifted from or based on elements of whichever curriculum is being used, and there should be a developmental sequence to them- for example there’s no point in giving a C&L target to build a narrative into their play, if their speech and language development means they don’t have the prerequisite skills to do that! (Unless of course it’s an end of term/nursery target and they’ll be working towards the other skills first) No point in giving a target to form recognisable letters if they can’t hold a mark making tool and use it with control etc etc.
Open to interpretation, I’m always thinking what are the next steps? How can we progress? So I’ve got one here at the moment, great physical skills gross and fine so actually my main area of focus for him is speech because he’s almost 2 and has only just started copying single words- but I also take into account he’s got older siblings that’s talk for him and is very shy and it’s taken him almost a full year to be completely settled with me! My aim as a childminder is to make sure all children are happy/ confident and independent before they start school but to follow the development and progress of each child!
It’ll very likely be from development matters, or birth to 5 matters.
