Nursery funding from September

My daughter is in nursery already but I was on the understanding the funding would go up to 30 hours from September. My friend has just been told from her nursery her 1 year old won’t be entitled to 30 hours until Jan as they need to turn 2 by the end of August. Is this true as I thought it was from September all children 9 months plus are entitled to 30 hours? Thanks for your help.

I’m pretty sure all 9 months old get the funding from September.

The last government rolled out the plan for it to be 30 hours from September 2025. However, I know that during the election, labour said they would need to look at where the funding was going to come from in the budget. As far as I know, they haven't said it won't happen, but maybe your friends nursery just don't want to promise something that hasn't been formally confirmed to them yet. Fingers crossed it does, I know we were looking forward to it!

@Heather ah okay, makes sense! Thanks

Last I heard is the government said they would continue the plans and so it’s 30 hours for any children 9 months and over

Is it not done by their age and term time like it was for the initial 15hrs? So my LB turns 1 at the end of October so think he's eligible from the next term, in January 26 🤔 x

@Keira this is definitely hoe is used to be as my son who's now 6 didn't get funding until after the Easter term as his a January baby I haven't looked into how it is now though

@Keira yeah but she’s been told he has to be the term after he turns 2 but we thought it was from 9 months. We were the same I didn’t get funding until the term after my baby was 9 months

In Sept 25 all children aged over 9 months will get 30hrs free there is no term date needed. The current funding is that if a child is entitled to the current 2 year funding it will be from the term after their 2nd birthday (or third birthday as not many children qualify for it from 2). However the nursery don’t have to offer any funded places at all it is up to them.
