Waking up

Ugh we’re at a loss. We soothe baby to sleep and put her in her bassinet. She lays there for a few minutes, we climb back into bed, all of a sudden she starts kicking and squirming waking herself back up. This is a constant cycle all night and she just won’t sleep unless held. But she’s not like that during the day

My baby was/is the same, it’s hit and miss now. I updated our swaddle to the love to dream and it’s helped. I also slightly inclined her bassinet so she isn’t totally flat. I’ve also started giving her a bottle as her last feed so I know she is content and her belly is full. Three nights ago she slept 7 hours for the first time, I still dream fed her twice focus I was up checking her. Lol. She is 8 weeks.

Try a different swaddle , and try to raise her bed so she’s not laying just flat

Is she on a schedule? My baby has been on a schedule since day 1 and now ( 9 weeks tomorrow) she has been sleeping 9 hours straight through the night. We make sure to get all Her calories in during the day before bedtime - it’s taken work but I’m a huge supporter of a wake/ feed schedule

I second the swaddle recommendation it makes a difference for my little guy. We use certain swaddles for day time and more containing ones for night. Also the schedule, going to bed too earlier may not be in your favor. We started by putting him down at 12am and recently moved him up to 10pm at 6 weeks

6-8 weeks is the first sleep regression so frequent wakings and short naps are pretty normal. Things to try/check: is she wanting a little more food? Maybe try keeping her awake a little more for her first feed at night to see if she eats a little more. Gas? My little one woke up frequently last night and every time she had a big fart. But was like: well, I'm awake, so I might as well eat. You can try positions to relieve gas etc or gas drops. Soothe when you set down. Pat belly, gently run her eyebrows, bridge of her r nose. So it for like a minute. That will help if seeing her down is waking up up a little. Warm: you are warm, bassinet is not. Put a heat pack down to warm up the mattress. Take it out then set baby down. Butt first, then head to set down Also, active sleep is a thing. Is she truly waking up? Like crying? If it's active sleep, she doesn't need to be picked up

@Caryn that’s interesting I’ve never heard of inclining bassinet, how do you even do that?

@Miriam I feel like her active sleeping is what’s waking her up😂 she will squirm & quick quietly for a while and then eventually it gets so crazy she wakes & cries

@Lia boo. Poor baby. Also, I'll note that reclining the bassinet is not recommended for young babies (I asked last time my December baby had a cold) due to risk of suffocation.

@Miriam 🤷🏼‍♀️ my pediatrician recommended it for her reflux.

@Caryn ugh. Can they get their stories straight? (What else are you doing for reflux? We have a referral for SLP for our little girl's reflux but the first appointment is 2/25...)

@Miriam 🤣🤣 right?? I did look it up and what I saw was over 10 degrees inclined is not safe sleep. So, I don’t think she actually had reflux, I think she has bad gas. It’s so hard to really tell what’s going on with them. But the mild incline seems to help her stay asleep and minimize the startle reflex when put down. I haven’t dared test it flat again, but I should.

We put a heating pad in the bassinet during night feeds / diaper changes & then remove it right before laying her down. Helps with the shock of transferring from your warm body to the bassinet.
