I have a gate on my living room and kitchen entrances but I live in a bungalow. If I lived in a house I would have a stair gate at both top and bottom. I have also heard the top one needs to be bolted because of them potentially climbing on it and it falling. My boy has 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and has been on that for a while now. Breakfast is 8:15 on a childminder day and 9:00 on a non childminder day. Lunch is 11:30 on a childminder day and 12:30 at home. Dinner is 5:30/6:00 and I got snacks in around 10:30 and 2:00 x
We don't have gates up yet but when we do like when we had our son we just put one at the bottom of the stairs and when older one on the bedroom door. Our HV advised against the top of thr stairs due to them falling through if rattling them ( so yeah if you do put one there screw it in) but my little boy was never alone on ybe landing by the top of the stairs anyway so didn't need one. We are currently doing 3 meals a day now and one bottle at 3 and one at 7 before bed x

@Elena oh do you fit it all in food wise? I’m struggling with two meals 🤣
@Bea he only has 2 bottles, 1 at 7:30am and one at 7:00pm x
So we have 2 baby gates, top and bottom of stairs. We rent too but figured our baby's safety is worth having to potentially fill a couple of holes and paint 😅 in your situation I'd probably put it at the top of the stairs, like you say you can keep an eye on him better downstairs! My girl is having ready brek for breakfast (around 8:30am, 30-45 minutes after her bottle normally) and she whatever we're having for tea (around 5pm), just appropriate for her. She has lunch most days (around midday, after a half 11ish bottle) but it's usually just picky bits - melty sticks, rusk, cucumber sticks etc 😅 we have a machine washable and floor mat, as well as sleeved bibs which help with clean up! Plus anything that needs a spoon I'll feed her at the moment, if she's having mash or something for tea I give her a spoon to work on those skills and we just accept that there will be clean up 😂
