Whole Milk Intake

How much whole milk does your 1 year old drink? I believe my 1yo is drinking way too much whole milk but he’d rather drink than eat.

Mine is the opposite. He'd rather eat than drink. Our pediatrician said between 8-18 oz is good so they don't get all of their calories from milk but see it as a beverage rather than a meal We usually are around 10-13oz a day

My girl loves food AND her milk. I keep trying to cut her back and she gets so mad at me.

My pediatrician said to limit whole milk to 16oz a day

@Cami I second that. Our pediatrician told us the same. If I feel like she’s not finishing her meals, I’ll usually include more snacks throughout the day.

Same here. Our ped said try to stick between 14-18 oz a day. My little bean loves his milk and his food. He also loves water! So he usually does about 16oz of milk a day and maybe 4oz of water throughout the day

My ped said as long as she's not drinking over 24 oz a day there's no risk as far as iron absorption, and even then it's still generally safe. The biggest issue with that high is getting more calories from milk that from food. My daughter gets about 16oz of milk a day, but also eats 3 solid meals and 2 snacks so our ped said not to worry about milk intake (she also drinks like 3 sippy cups of water it's insane. She eats/drinks SO MUCH)

We had this same problem and our pediatrician told us to limit him to 16-20oz a day and the rest water. He wasn’t eating enough because he was drinking too much milk. He’s doing much better with food now that’s he’s only drinking about 16oz a day.

16oz a day
