Speech

Has anyone ever had a 2 1/2 year old who only says a few words and for the most part doesn’t talk?

Me 🙋‍♀️ u need a referral from the pcp to start speech therapy and get it covered by insurance it’s hard process but it’s worth it

My 2 1/2 year old is the same way. She says maybe 10 words on a good day. She’s been in speech therapy since August and we can definitely tell a difference.

In the meantime try to talk like ms Rachel or follow the Montessori method of watching ur child seeing how they react to things and if they make eye contact with you say the word of what they holding like for example I purchased a lot of insects , mammals, and when my son looks at me while holding a pig I say the word pig 🐖 and do the oink oink sound and rub my nose like i were a pig

Mine! Luckily my son's pcp is the best and referred us when we asked. It took 6 months to get an appointment but we just did the eval yesterday and they gave us a treatment plan for the next 6 months and want us there 2x weekly. He knows a lot of words and talks all the time. He just is way behind.

Yes, he does speech therapy 2x a week. He was referred at his 2yr well exam. His words have increased a ton since he started.

Us! My girl does speech once a week. She’s starting to pick up a few words but she doesn’t say much. Maybe only 10 words.

My son too! I would recommend getting a referral for speech therapy as well but if you’re not able to get it covered by insurance I know some states offer some free services. In my state it’s Nevada Early Intervention and they help with setting them up with school as well.

Yes you can get speech therapy with a referral from their pediatrician my son did therapy for almost a year

We do, our 2.5 year old got referred very early (around 14 months) to a speech program through the state (first steps) but they age out at 3 and it takes a while sometimes to get established. He’s been in it about a year and we’ve seen good progress but he is still behind.

My boy is bilingual. In the sense that half of what he says is in our language and the other half is English but at the same time, it’s not much. He can get his point across. Now I’m thinking, does he need a speech therapist?

In some states you don’t need a referral for speech therapy through early intervention (nj you don’t) so look online because you might be able to start the process today.
