Maybe put them in a sleeping bag? Mine hated it so he just had a blanket pinned down.
Generally, if swaddled with arms free, that's fine.. also generally, if swaddled arms in they can't roll as easy.. so I would try to swaddle arms in and see if he still rolls, if not, swaddle arms out 💁
My daughter did this at this age. Midwife said that if they roll by themselves it's fine. You can always use a sleep bag for night. My first was tiny 5lb baby and we used love to dream.
This is the stage 2 with the unzipped arm. It comes fully off, the other arm has it taken off!
@Korissa mine loved these ones
@Minna 10/10 product!
Put a breathable blanket over him one with holes in that should be fine
Newborns often end up on their side, they're still wanting to be scrunched up and lifting their legs often topples them over slightly. Swaddling tighter rather than loose can help. Tommee tippee newborn size 000 sleep bags are really small and you can popper the arms closed
They do this as newborns and then lose the ability to until they are stronger. It’s some kind of reflex they initially have. My 2 boys did the same thing.
It's called the "newborn scrunch" and it's not technically rolling. They can often end up on their sides because their arms and legs bunch up. They grow out of it very quickly. The arms up swaddle is a good idea and some babies like it better.
@Emma coming to say this, my newborn rolled onto her side fairly early and my pediatrician told me it was birth tension and startle reflex. ATP it’s mostly involuntary. I second the love to dream arms up swaddle.
The baby is fine mama don’t stress yourself
Yes ours rolled in the first couple days too and he was just so used to being all rolled up in the womb haha it stopped after a while but highly recommend an osteopath or infant chiropractor to assess any tension
Try sleeping bag

Love to Dream sleep sacks are the best! My baby also likes his hands up by his face and the love to Dream sleep sacks allowed him to do that. Now that he has started rolling we are moving into having his hands out :)
Awwwww congratulations. I still swaddled my son after he rolled to his side at 3 days too. He only rolled when not swaddled. Every child is different. They also have sleep sacks which gives baby more room to move if needed. There are sleeping gowns and put pants on him underneath it. Fleece and Sherpa Footed PJ's till about 7 months. Cut the feet off n but footless one so you can allow your son to use the sensory input of his feet to learn how to walk.
That is called the newborn curl and is completely normal at that age! It’s similar to how they would be positioned in your belly 🫶🏻 I was always told swaddling them is safe if they put themselves in that position.
Mime did this for about a week and then went back to sleeping on their back. So they may stop they may just want to be a side sleeper.
Sainsburys do 2.5tog sleep suits. It’s literally a regular sleep suit shape with the weight so they could be the perfect option! Our baby is too small for the sleep bags too and my midwife did advise against them although we have some. Our house is warmer so we have been just tucking a cellular blanket under the mattress as advised. Xx
Unrelated but i love the crib you have. Where can i get one? Love the clear acrylic.
My daughter was 4weeks early and tiny and we put her in a sleep bag was big in length/body but fitted fine around the neck you can get tiny baby ones which fit perfectly.She just turned one last Sunday and we are still in a sleepbag to keep her cosy c
I used a positioner
Thank you everyone! I think sleep deprivation was winning for me last night 😅 I have tonnes of sleep bags but they're all 0-3 and he wears newborn clothes. When I actually looked at the weights, he is big enough and his tommee tippee bag fit perfectly. He had the best sleep of his life last night and we all feel better for it. I'm so paranoid about him getting good sleep and safe sleep, I made it harder than it needed to be. Will look into tension when we're out of the fog of the first few weeks. Thanks again everyone!
@Elisha it's actually a hospital bed! But I'd buy one if they were available. You can make them rock gently and change the height, easy to clean ect.
@Ann I was told against these as they're not safe
It’s not really rolling .. my LG was doing but it’s stopped about a week or two I didn’t stop swaddling her
it's normal, just a reflex. he will grow out of it and then probably won't roll to a few months old. they make 2.5tog sleep suits which might be a bit better for your situation x
@Minna I know, but I was even more scared he would roll on to his face and not be able to breathe 🤷🏻♀️
Congratulations 🙌 I’m unsure what to suggest for sleep. However, from what I’ve read about early rolling and lifting head (in newborns), it’s not because they are super advanced, it’s likely from tension from birth. A cranial osteopath could release that tension and stop the rolling. Not 100% sure this helps but you could get some advice by contacting one.
