Maternity pay

I've worked in the nhs for 3 years, mat pay is very confusing to me but I chose equal pay over the year and get occupational mat pay and SMP. Think the first say 6 weeks is 90% of pay then goes onto SMP but cause I chose equal pay I'll roughly get the same every month, I would talk to others in your work if they have had children to explain or your manager as you'll need to fill out a form on the Eess system, that's for nhs scotland though don't know if it's different in England. And the wage is pretty rubbish as everything with the nhs 😂 x

I believe you're entitled to the same as if you where full time but obviously your payments will be less. The policy is in the policy centre I can't for the life of me remember what's it's called. Mine got messed up and I now owe just over 2k because my manager didn't read the policy 🫣🤦‍♀️ (which I'm glad I spotted a month into my maternity or I'd be walking into work confused.).

@Alison iv had a look on the system but wanted to make sure I was reading it right and not get my hopes up as it actually seems not that bad the pay x

@Helen yeah I managed to have a look but wanted to be certain but oh no that’s so annoying, my manager put all my paperwork through late so I was overpaid my 1st month 🤦🏽‍♀️x

I work part time for the nhs but hadn’t been there a year before getting pregnant so only on smp but I was always told that nhs mat pay is pretty good

It’s varies on many things- how many hours you work, unsocial, how many months you split it over, what band you are etc. You get 8 weeks full pay 18 weeks half pay and 39 weeks smp. Smp is currently £184.03 a week. It’s worked out on an average of weeks 15-25 I think it is but it’s the actual pay you get in them.x

@Courtney I had just over two months of normal pay before payroll went huh what! It had meant that I'm nearly 10 months onto my maternity and I still have been receiving a bit of pay so it's not too bad. I luckily moved the money into my savings because they paid me the owed maternity pay all in one, which was a huge wow that's a lot of money in my bank account moment 😹.
