Private assessment (UK)

Has anyone gone private to get a diagnose for their child ? And has it been declined by the nhs . I’m really thinking of this because of having to wait absolutely ages ??

I’ve asked NHS about private diagnosis and at least from what I’ve been told by them (don’t quote me on this) often times a private diagnosis is not something they can work with x

Oh noway , that’s what I am scared of Because they ain’t cheap . Did u have to wait long ?

If you want to go private you need to ensure it’s one that the NHS would accept. A lot of private places don’t do a full history which is what the NHS need. It basically needs to be a robust assessment, not just from a one off assessment. Where are you based?

Yeah with me I asked it specifically in reference to whether or not schools would accept private diagnosis to provide support as well and was told they often don’t. For me (and I feel a lot us) it’s the practicality of the diagnosis that I’m after for my son, not the diagnosis itself. I was told a diagnosis through the NHS where I am for my 3 year old son could take around 18 months. It’s worth asking these questions where you’re based x

I've done a private diagnosis and it's been accepted by nhs and nursery. I checked it followed the NICE guidelines. I was told if it followed the NICE guidelines it will be accepted and i haven't had any issues. My boy is 2.

@Em that’s really positive to hear thanks
