Weight

Im really struggle mentally with my LO weight at the minute, it’s literally on my mind 24/7, he’s allergic to wheat milk and egg along with other foods and cant get him to eat anything at the minute. Hes 15 months old weighing 8.6kg still in size 3 nappies. I have cried so many times over it and seeing babies his age double his size and thriving. Im honestly sick of hearing “oh hes so small” or “he wont starve himself, so dont worry” He gets really unwell after a reaction and takes about a week to get back to normal. He’s so limited as it is, i just feel like im failing massively. Please if anyone is in a similar situation please tell me whats working for you so i can try with my LO 💙

Awww I’m sorry to hear that! It breaks my heart for you and your little one. Have you tried a pediatric nutritionist? They could help!! Sorry if I’m being obvious I just really wish I could help you!

We are under a dietitian and allergy team but i didnt even know that was available but i will ask, thank you so much x

This sounds very hard 😞 my little boy has a milk protein allergy and even that is hard enough! I've tried to focus on giving him healthy fats from elsewhere, for example oily fish like salmon and sardines - high in fat and calories. I also give him porridge (I think unprocessed oats are gluten free) made with banana and coconut milk, again for some extra fat. I make him things with chicken thigh too as has high fat content. He loves humus which is great as it's high in protein, has olive oil for fat, and sesame for calcium. I was always worried about him getting enough calcium and found that sesame is high in calcium and also so is broccoli! Feel free to message me if you want any recipes etc as a lot of the food I make for my little one is milk and egg free, and can be easily made gluten free too 🥰

@Caitlin will defo try some of these but he is allergic to oats and coconut too unfortunately and throws up after humus everytime😩 but thank you so much this helps x

Can he have nut butters? Add olive oil into puree? (Maybe gradually if doesn't like taste at first). My boy grew out of CMPA (at least got to cheese on milk ladder but ye gets eczema from yoghurt and haven't tried milk yet) but I still make mushy peas with olive oil and he loves it. For breakfast he has porridge oats with oatmilk and fruits and nut butters. I had some kallo lentil cake (like rice cake) the other day and noticed was really high protein. Beans peas lentils are good protein. Maybe the doctor can give some kind if antihistamine to help him recover more quickly from reactions?

My boy also loved my gluten and dairy free mac and cheese when I was also dairy free for breastfeeding him before he went on milk ladder. Used oat milk cornflour and vegan "sheese". Same with lasagne he can eat that right up and bolognese. Or pasta with fake cheese and tomato sauce 😅 Leon gluten free chicken nuggest at sainsburys they have actual chicken in it not the meat pulp you get in a normal nugget. Expensive but worth it and LO loves it. Also gluten free fish fingers although even less healthy. Would help get calories in

And finally to say I was a tiny child myself and ended up with loads of allergies as a teenager and I have a good quality of life now and don't care that I'm short! My partner is over a foot taller than me so it doesn't seem to have impacted my life in any way although I understand there is more pressure on boys to be tall. My cousin ended up being super tall but he kept growing until age 20 and was quite small as a kid. Sounds like you're doing your absolute best which means you're an amazing mummy. Please don't be so hard on yourself, none of this is your fault!

My LO is slow onto solids. She eats avocado regularly - it’s highly nutritious xx

Oh no, that is so hard! I would definitely try to speak to a dietitian to get some advice as it sounds like you're super restricted. Another thing I remembered, I used to add ground nuts (almonds, etc) into my little boy's purées when first weaning him, this might be something to do just to add a few more calories.

So sorry to hear you’re having a tough time - we’ve been there too with allergies and no weight gain, it consumes your mind doesn’t it. Could your dietician prescribe duocal? It’s a powder you put in any foods they can have, like yoghurt etc but you can put it in pretty much anything. We found when we did this it stimulated our litttle ones appetite so they started eating more and we could stop the duocal eventually x

Hi. I’m sorry to read, this sounds really stressful. We are a vegan family and don’t have much wheat so I might be able to suggest some things for you to try ❤️ Does he eat weetabix? We use an omega nutrition supplement which is made from buckwheat (a fruit, unrelated to wheat and gluten free). It is incredibly nutritious for both fats and other vitamins. We mix 2 scoops of this with her cereal but it can also be mixed with a milk to make a drink Happy to share a link if you’re interested. We also make muffins / pancakes with chickpea flour which you can buy in Tesco. Soya yoghurt is a big hit (the plain one, no sugars but also Tesco do strawberry flavour pouches which are coconut based). Soreen for something sugary and they are also fortified with vitamins. Tofu is really good as it’s soft and doesn’t taste strong, my lo eats this plain just cooked in the acti fry or oven for 10 mins. Obviously we have loads of tasty recipes we try but I’m just giving you some basics
