I've opted out for my 4 year old
I am a teacher in year 6 so I take children each year to be weighed and measured. There’s no stress on it. The children do not get weighed or measured in front of each other. They don’t even get shown or told their weights or measurements. They are just in and out and then parents get sent a letter later on. The kids are more excited that they have to take their shoes off…
Neutral- might be helpful, if you don’t regularly measure or aren’t sure how to support your child with their growth and development (I have worked with parents/families that don’t) Might not be beneficial if you are keeping an eye on their growth and development and know the advice already or don’t need/want it.
For me it was helpful as my daughter is an extremely fussy eater. Hopefully it can offer support to those kids that need it although really needs to be more regular if that was the case as weight fluctuates. That said as an overweight kid I hated it.
My 4 year old had it done and we later received a letter with his measurements. Rather unhelpfully we were told we'd receive a phone call IF there were any concerns about his BMI or height. There was no guidance as to what was a healthy or u healthy BMI to guide whether we'd have a phone call or not. My experience was that it was a data gathering exercise.
Bad
It’s all for government and nhs stats. Don’t think it’s helpful for parents
