Brisbane wheelchair advice please!
Hey ladies,
I have a very good friend who broke her back about a year ago. She is travelling to Brisbane next week as there is a therapist she wants to try. I
really want to go with her but I have just had a baby so can’t :( instead I’m trying to do as much research as possible to make it as smooth as possible for her as it’s very stressful travelling by yourself in a wheelchair for the first time.
So I’m trying to hire a car for her first week and they are labelled “in metro” or “out of metro”. Does anyone know what that means, please? I googled it but couldn’t tell as it just said the Metro was a train. I was wondering if it’s some sort of zoning thing where certain types of cars are only allowed in certain places in Brisbane? If anyone knows which other good car rentals that would be a helpful tip as well thank you.
If anyone else has any advice for getting around in a wheelchair in Brisbane or anything you think might be helpful for her please reach out.
She might at some point look for someone to come over and give her a bit of help while she stays at her apartment, so if you have any thoughts on how she can get that that would be lovely, thank you.
If anyone also has any leads on wheelchair friendly taxis, that would be helpful as well
Thanks everyone
Your friend from England

I think "in metro" means in Brisbane city and inner city suburbs, and out of metro is the further areas away from the city. Might be about where you're wanting to take the hire car? I couldn't say which was which but the therapist at one of the bigger hospitals would be metro 😀 All the buses and trains and ferrys in Brisbane are wheelchair friendly and the staff are usually very helpful. They were with me and the pram.
