You can find out during your 20 week gender scan or you can get a blood test at 10 weeks and find out
If they can see clearly they will tell you at nhs 20 week scan, however this is not the reason for having this scan so depends who you get as a sonographer. We asked our scanner to give us a guess at our 12 week scan and she said boy (which is right) but we had a private scan at 16 weeks and had it confirmed again. If you want to know for definite then wait as long as possible unless it’s obvious.
- Blood test (you have to pay out of pocket but does show potential for chromosomal abnormalities too) =10wks - private scan (again out of pocket) = 16+wks - anatomy scan = 20wks
You can do the blood test at 10 weeks called the NIPT. You can ask your provider about it. As someone said you might have to pay out of pocket but it depends on your ins. My ins paid for the majority of the test. It also checks chromosomal/genetic anomalies. Some people don’t like taking this one though if they don’t want the chromosomal knowledge. Or at 20 weeks anatomy scan they can verify gender if baby is in a good position. Or as someone said a private scan. I did not do the private scan as most of them cost 200 dollars or more where I live. For me I did NIPT at 10 weeks got results in a week or so, found out I was having a boy based off of the chromosomes in his blood. Then at 20 weeks anatomy scan they verified he is a boy. Then NIPT can have a small margin of error but from what I understand a boy result is almost 99% since it picked up a Y chromosome which I do not have.
18-22 weeks is usually when you can find out the gender unless the doctor office you go to offers a blood test to be done, then you could find out earlier
It depends on your doctor! I took the blood test and it showed me right around 12 weeks, and then I had my ultrasound around 13 weeks.
Usually 20 week scan xx
