Breastfeeding to formula feeding

So my LG is 5 weeks old and is currently breastfed completely. She has had 2 bottles so far of expressed milk. However I am struggling to keep up with her feeding. She is very hungry all the time. She wakes for a feed every 2-3 hours and is always fussy after a feed. I don’t think she’s getting enough from me 😞 I’m pretty sure I know that answer but can I mix breast milk with formula milk in the same bottle? What is the best formula to get? In my area, kendamil is really hard to find so I want something that’ll fill her up and also isn’t hard to find! Thanks x

Unfortunately you cannot mix formula with breastmilk! We use cow and gate and have no issues, she’s nice and full after and doesn’t give her any digestive issues :) and you can buy it in Costco🤣 x

@Isobel thank you! I thought you can’t mix them but just wanted to double check. Can I also ask how often your little girl is feeding? My son was every 3-4 hours but she’s every 2-3. I know every baby is different but just interested x

You can, but it’s not particularly recommended as it can lead to wasted breast milk as formula has to be discarded - this might help: https://llli.org/breastfeeding-info/mixing-milk/ We use Cow + Gate with no issues, basically all formula milk is to the same standard under one year old so you’re best starting with something you can easily access. You can then monitor baby and see if you need to change x

@Eleanor every 3-4 roughly with longer stints during the night (sometimes)🤣 she is 7 weeks old now xx

@Jess do you know if that is the only reason why it’s not recommended? I’m aware all formula is more or less the same however as you said I need something that’s in most stores x

I asked the same question about formula mixing and breast milk and alot of people have said you can mix it ..im going to ring my health visitor just to be sure and will start my girl on it .. My girls 8 weeks today and my supply is abit low

Every 2-3 hours is the timing for BF babies. If your LO gains weight, you don’t need to supplement with formula

@Veronika she is gaining weight and I’m aware that every 2-4 hours is okay for a baby to feed but she is fussy after. And if I feed her expressed milk from a bottle after breastfeeding her, she guzzles down 3oz x

@Nosheen I think I’m going to call my health visitor too as I’ve read so many mixed things x

@Eleanor did u manage to speak to ur health visitor .. Ive js had my little ones 8 weeks check up and i spoke to the health visitor she goes u can mix them together

@Nosheen brilliant thank you! We have the health visitor next week but you’ve saved me waiting that long x
