We did baby led weaning with my first and my plan to do the same with our second but the first “food” my first had was a rib bone and she absolutely loveddd it, that was around 5.5-6 months where she was able to sit up with me holding her on my lap and her holding the bone gnawing on it on her own and then switched to larger soft items I think her second item was a pickle spear lol but remember food before 1 is fun don’t stress it and do whatever your baby enjoys and what you feel comfortable with
My first hated purees
We have been doing 4oz of homemade purees twice a day. My Little Dude does not sit up on his own but does sit with assistance, and he has great head control. He was born 4 weeks early, and he turned 6 months on 2/1.
I read this book. https://a.co/d/4pYBhK7 Helps you determine when to start and where to even begin. If you want to do baby led weaning which can also include purées if you want. Looks long but it’s a ton of picture examples of foods and food sizes as they grow.
We started at 5 months but he was able to sit supported without a lot of head movement. We do baby led weaning with purées of not so safe foods like peas
I started at 5 months, got the ok from Dr. cause he spits up a lot and wanted to make sure he actually got some in his tummy. Starting the solids has helped him reduce the spit up by 50% I’d say and he’s only done it for a week. He can hold his head up great but cannot sit up by himself. I strap him up in the high chair and he’s good to go. It has shoulder straps and waist straps so he’s held up and not falling forward.
Twins started at 4 months, got ok from doc. Head control has been good for a while and they have been interested in food. They love applesauce, yogurt, guacamole, oatmeal, frozen banana, frozen mango. All regular food not baby food. Can sit up in chair, but not stable on their own
A sign of readiness is baby being able to sit with support, hands being brought to mouth, and adequate head control. If you sit your baby in the high chair or other seats (UpSeat, ingenuity seat, etc) and your baby is falling to the side or their head is wobbling then they aren’t ready. My LO is 5 months and we officially started this week, I’m doing BLW mainly with homemade foods and little purées..keeping it very simple, the first day she had sweet potatoes. I steamed some for her to hold and mashed some in a bowl for her to explore. You will find what works for your baby, don’t feel like you have to do what TikTok says.
We are slowly introducing when ours hits about 7-8 months. Blending fruit and veggies with breastmilk and slowly upping from mostly milk to mostly fruit (smoothy basically). We have TONS of food allergies on both sides of our family. Actual solids won't be introduced until he's around 1. I will definitely make like Popsicles with blended milk, fruit, and veggies. We are playing safe than sorry considering out families
