We've also been referred to a dietician 19th feb but i cant wait that long these 4 weeks have been hell.
It can take 6 weeks for the cows milk protein to get out of babies system. Pepti 1 does still contain cows milk proteins though. Nutramigen / SMA Althera also do but are slightly different to pepti and then you get neocate and SMA Alfamino which don’t contain any cows milk proteins at all. My girl refused nutramigen entirely, pepti was ok until she refused that too, althera was a bit better but she literally smelled like rotten eggs and still had awful trapped wind so now we are on alfamino. Her wind has completely resolved, she still has dry skin but it isn’t red and sore like it was and she still has very wet loose poops 3-4 times a day but she doesn’t smell anywhere near as bad. She dropped from 95th to below 50th percentiles but the dietitian rejected her referral 🤦🏼♀️ it really is trial and error to find the right milk. Soy allergy is also very common with cmpa, do you have much soy in your diet?
Pepti 1 still contains cows milk proteins they’re just broken down a lot more. My little one is on Pepti 1 (she’s 5 months) and struggles soooo much to get her wind up still on it, but she knows how to fart now so it’s a lot easier. Apparently it’s common for them to struggle to get wind up on it. My girl still struggles in an evening time with belly ache too, and mucusy poop but her paediatrician said to leave her because she’s doing 100x better than she was on any other milk. We tried a completely cows milk protein free milk (Neocate) but she ended up having awful skin on it, barely drunk anything and her reflux was just horrendous and she was in constant pain so we moved back to Pepti 1. It can take up to 6 weeks for the proteins to get out their system but you know your baby best. Your GP should be referring him to the dietician anyway as when it comes to weaning time you’ll need advice on the milk ladder etc. Sooner the better because waiting lists are huge on them!!xx
@Ansa we’re only on 4-5 oz too and it can sometimes take up to 2 hours for him to finish the bottle it’s crazy! How old was your little one when they put in the referral? Mine is nearly 9 weeks so wasn’t sure if he’s too young x
@Lauryn oh gosh the eggy smell has started this week it’s awful 🤣 this is my worry because he’s staying along the 25th centile for weight that it won’t be seen as an issue for a referral. Tbh I think I might do as a lot of the dairy alternatives I’ve been having have it in. My older boy had a soy intolerance when he was younger so that could also be a factor alongside the dairy I guess🤦🏼♀️
@Joanna oh bless her, it’s so hard to know what’s right haha! Our GP said speak to the health visitor as GP’s aren’t trained to know about this stuff so I think I better ask for the referral sooner rather than later if it’s a long wait🙈x
@Lauren yeah around that mark his whole body was all red inflamed and still is but alot less and they done it straight away i also went to hospital with him because gp gave nutrimagen and he refused to drink so i took him hospital they done their checks and gave aptamil pepti 1 and done a emergency referral for dietician. I didnt stop going until they done something about it tbh bugged them nonstop otherwise they just fob you off xxx
