Question about formula feeding in hospital.

FTM packing my hospital bag and planning to breastfeed but wanting to have formula as a back up just in case. I’m going to take some ready made milk with me (not powdered) but what do I do about bottles? Can I sterilise them in hospital or do they provide bottles… how does it work? Cant see how I can pack sterilised bottles and keep them sterilised…. But might be being daft. I’m also collecting colostrum, so do appreciate need for formula is unlikely but want to be prepared just in case!

You’ll need to check in with your hospital as they’re all different in terms of resources. Ours has a feeding room with space to pump/sterilise etc. but there’s no way of knowing. Our hospital also did tours which could be useful (if there’s one before you pop!)

I got a pack of 6 pre made bottles with teats you screw onto the bottle x

I've got the sort that come with teats so you just need to screw the teat on and feed. Bit more expensive but save the issue needing a steriliser.

If you pack the pre-made starter packs, they come in bottles with teats that you would use. Baby will only take really small amounts anyways x

I got some pre made formula in bottles with teats too, but I’m not planning to take it to hospital because I’m determined to breastfeed. If the baby wasn’t feeding in hospital for whatever reason they will give you formula. They wouldn’t let baby go hungry!

I purchased some of the pre made with teats to take in with me as having a c-section and at my pre-op today they said not to bring anything as they will provide if needed and/or struggling to breastfeed. I’ll probably still take a couple anyway just in case.
