My son has Down syndrome and we accessed portage through our paediatrician they are amazing , you can self refer to them , to cams and if you google charities near you there are things like conductive education , and occupational therapy available free too we do lots around our area ,,x
@Courtney I will have a look for this thank you. My son’s awaiting a pediatric appointment at the moment so no referrals have been done until he has seen them. My son doesn’t point or copy.
@Kirsty thank you I will have a look into this.
We’re involved with portage, we were referred by the health visitor when he was 18 months. He’s now 27 months and had his first visit last week. We’ve also got a paediatrician referral but still waiting for an appointment. Before portage we had a play worker from SEES come for 6 weeks to work on eye contact and other communication skills which helped. Maybe ask the health visitor again to see if they can suggest any?
You can do a self referal to your speech and language therapist through your council. We did that for my daughter and her S&L actually referred us to portage. My 19mo twins also babble and don’t say words. Is your son on the waiting list for a referal? This is around the time I referred my daughter but I’m thinking of waiting with my boys as I’m not sure if it’s because they’re copying from her (she’s pre verbal)
