Hi hun, sorry you're LO is struggling. We tried carobel and anti reflux but it was all short lived and nothing helped as such. I just wanted to ask whether your LO has any other symptoms. Just with such severe reflux that baby stops gaining weight can indicate an underlying reason. I know they tell us the stomach flap is weak in babies but they often say it can be due to other causes like tongue tie, intolerances etc does she have any other symptoms, is she settled after feeds other than the reflux? Any excess of wind? Just wondering as they told us they weren't concerned, then 3 months down the line has a CMPA which took 3 months for symptoms to worsen xx
@Alice We’re using the MAM bottles with size 2 teat and I was breast feeding before, but she would have 1 bottle with my partner using a size 0 teat
@Beth the Carobel has definitely helped with the sickness as she hardly spits up at all anymore and all of her reflux symptoms have gone using the Carobel, but she is straining with all of her bowel movements now and her stools are fully formed so I think they are causing her a lot of discomfort! Before moving to the Carobel she would spit up all of her feeds so the HV thinks that’s why she didnt gain any weight. She is definitely settled after feeds now, it’s just the bowel movements we are having issues with so wondered if it was Carobel that was causing that and if moving to a thickened formula would help… I also had the same symptoms when I was a new born and didn’t have CMPA xx
Aww that's good, I wasn't suggesting CMPA just giving an example. Hope it improves x
Ah okay. So the faster flow can mean they struggle to control the flow and take in more air which causes reflux to worsen. If you message me I can explain how to feed to help with feeding and reduce reflux symptoms
I use carobel for my girls reflux, we use dr browns bottles and a size 3 teat. My girl got constipated when she first started using it as it’ll take time for their bodies to adjust to the thicker milk. We were given some lactulose which we gave a small dose every other day and it helped her have softer poos, she’s been on the thicker formula for 3.5 months now and we’ve not had to use the lactulose for 2 months now.
My little girl is on anti reflux formula and it’s okay, they are little thicker and she sometimes struggles but not for long. I found it okay. Been using couple months.
@Rachel how many scoops of the Carobel did you use? X
So I do one scoop for every 60ml of formula and then start feeding after 2.5 minutes of it being mixed.
Anti reflux has thickener in it just like carobel so would do the same thing. What bottles are you using and what size teat were you using before the carobel
