Is every working parent just working in the evenings?

My kids earliest drop off times at childcare (two different places) are 8am and 8:30am. I have flexible hours but i need to work 8.5 hours a day which used to be 8-4:30. My kids latest pick up times are 3pm and 5pm. I need to work 8.5 hours a day so if i work between drop off/pick up that is about 5 hours with travel time. I need to do another 3.5. Is everyone just working their whole evening?? How are you meant to have a job and kids?! And yes my partner does help so we usually do one kid each but still???

It is hard to navigate the times the only other idea I can think of is use nursery’s near to work then you can get to work earlier maybe not ideal as I’m not sure where you work or even if it’s possible. It’s all sent to test us 😂

@Dannii thank you. I work from home atm and the nursery is 10 mins away but traffic can easily make it a 30 minute round trip for each child x

Yep, just working extra in the evenings… once I get baby down (which is a moving target with sleep regression), I put in another 2-3 hours. It’s pretty miserable… and I feel like the little time I get with my daughter I’m so tired I can’t give her my all. I’ve been thinking about switching jobs but right now that’s not an option so… I just keep swimming…

3 and 5pm are early... I'd shop around! My son's nursery is open until 5:30 and lots are 6pm

My son’s nursery is open 7.30am-6.30pm so never work in the evenings. Can you find a nursery with more hours?

We tag team. My husband drops off and I start earlier and then I leave earlier and collect while he stays on. X

We found a nursery that is open 6:45am - 6pm due to our long working days

I wonder the same thing sometimes. It’s hard for me to work and take care of my son. I get up at 5 am to squeeze in a workout. That’s the only thing I do for myself. Then I take care of him in the morning, take him to childcare, then any classes he has to take, evening and bedtime care. After 8 pm, I have to get back to work. I do that until 11 pm. Then repeat it all the next day. It’s a hard life
