@Trish thank you for the advice x
My son (17 months next week) is similar - only knows of Mum, Nan & Dad but forgets them for a while then picks them up again. Last week his paediatrician recommended to continue getting down on his level and continuously speak to him when playing to help with speach
Reading lots of books with them and singing nursery rhymes with actions is good too
@Nicole thank you will give this a go x
@joanna yeah he loved his books, just never wants to recreate any words only noises aha 😂 x
14 months is still young, I think it’s a really low number of words that are looked for at this age. I’m sure I’ve seen someone on here say that doing the noise an animal makes effectively counts as a word too. So if he’s doing the right sound for a few different animals, then that sounds like plenty. Sign language can be helpful too.
Talking to my daughter, reading lots of books and watching educational shows
It’s normal for babies to forget a learnt skill while they learn a new one x
I think it’s more about speaking to them constantly, narrating what you’re doing when they’re watching you and reading books. I found with my LB his vocab shot through the roof nearer to 2 years old, words, sentences, grammar etc. xxx
Oh and sign language is such a great way of enabling them to communicate before they have words xxx
@Neha I didn’t know that thank you for sharing x
@Heena thank you for the advice x
@Nikki what shoes do you watch? X
You don’t! They choose to talk when they talk, and they learn at their own pace. Just make sure you’re talking to them, and listening to them as if they are reponding to you! Repeat words they know in sentences, I.e. “ neee neee hmmmm MAMA hm?” “Yes buddy, MAMA is here! Mama is right here. And you are Dylan” “Nana mama mama nehhh” “Do you need mama? Mama is still here!”
