Changing to 0.8fte

Does anyone have any experience of returning to work at 0.8 from full time? Were your work supportive? How did you ask and who do I ask? If anyone has any example points for why it would be good for myself and the school that would be great too! I am not bothered about what 4 days I work, I would just like one day with my LO. Any advice please!

You need to make a flexible working application and your workplace will have one month to respond https://www.gov.uk/flexible-working/applying-for-flexible-working I'd probably have an informal conversation with your line manager and/or Head first so that they know to expect your application I dropped to 0.8 before I had my little boy... I'll have a look later and see whether I can find what I wrote about the benefits of it

Thank you! ❤️

Dear xxx Happy new year! I hope this email finds you well. I am writing as I would like to reduce my hours to a 0.8 timetable and wish to request that the school consider amending my contract for the next academic year. Obviously in making this decision I have carefully considered the potential impact on my department but I believe this to be manageable. This year the teaching allocation for Computing meant that xxx's timetable was three periods lighter than a standard NQT timetable and therefore several periods lighter than that of an experienced teacher, so it seems likely that there will be slack in the department timetable next year once we have made a new appointment. There are also three existing members of other departments who have experience of teaching the subject at Key Stage 3 and whose expertise we could draw on if required. Xxx in particular has a Computer Science degree and has expressed her interest in teaching some more Computing in the future....

...In recent years I have worked hard to produce quality schemes of work and lesson resources which are available for these additional teachers to use to avoid a heavy planning burden on their part. Additionally I would be happy to work any four days a week according to the demands of the timetable to ensure that there are no difficulties with scheduling classes.   I hope that by making this request early in a year where we have to recruit to the department anyway that we will be able to find a staffing solution that could accommodate my reduced hours. If necessary I would be happy to work full time in September to support the new staff member(s) as they settle in to the department. I remain committed to xxx and to ensuring the high-quality delivery of the Computing curriculum for our students.   I would like to thank you for taking the time to consider this request and I would be happy to meet with you to discuss the proposal further if required.

I returned to work 4 days a week, I put it in writing to my head who then took it to governors, it was agreed but seemed to take quite a while, so I’d put the request in as soon as you’re sure

I've come back to 0.8 and I love it. Work was supportive. I made a flexible working request and I'm sure my reasons was just childcare. I have an under allocated timetable so think that helped with my justification. I also use my ppas for period 1 on thr days i drop my son to nursery, so during that time I'm actually travelling into school otherwise I'd lose more money

i did the request and was rejected, so be prepared for this too..
