D&C and overweight… just looking for feedback I guess

I opted for a D&C but was feeling slightly nervous about it. I know it’s a quick and simple procedure but I’ve never been given anesthesia before and being overweight it’s making feel a bit skeptical. My procedure was initially scheduled for tomorrow at my ob office but I just got a call saying that it will have to be rescheduled and done at the hospital because of my weight. That didn’t help settle my nerves at all because im sure that means there are greater chances of complications, now I’m second guessing and considering just passing naturally but I have no one to talk to about this so I would appreciate any input 😕

Ugh that’s so frustrating! I’m sorry you’re going through this. Can I ask do you know how far along you baby was when they stopped growing? I’ve had 3 losses and that would heavily influence my decision.

@Lisa I don’t know exact but still pretty early, I’m guessing between 5-7 weeks. I know it’s early and passing naturally probably won’t be horrible 😩 but just feel so in between

Is the abortion pill an option for you? I cant comment on a D&C but i lost my baby between 8 and 10w and tried naturally but it didnt really work so I took the pill. While it's still an awful thing to go through, it is a more 'controlled' situation, in my case, enough to end the pregnancy without a procedure. I'm just saying this because I know it's hard to find information. Good luck with your choice and I'm very sorry for your loss❤️‍🩹

My baby’s heart stopped at 12+5 and I opted for the medical management to take the pill and pass baby naturally as I still breastfeed my son and the operation had too many complications for me with feeding in mind. Of course it is not a nice experience, it’s not just a painful period like they said it’s more than that (personal experience with my gestation) if the pill is an option for you and you think you can mentally cope with the process I’d choose that however I can see the benefits to choosing the surgical route. Feel free to message and I can tell you more about my experience with medical management. Sending you so much love xx

@Jenny they did give that as an option also, which I did consider, dr just really made d&c seem like the easiest route so I was feeling hopeful. Only other experience I have with miscarriage I was probably about 12 weeks along and passed naturally, but I desperately need to avoid another experience like that again. I know I’m much earlier this time so I don’t expect them to be very similar, I just don’t know what to expect though

@Tee thank you. I will probably message once I’m out of work

It’s such an unpredictable situation. I had all 3 methods because the miscarriage didn’t complete naturally or with the pills. The sac collapsed but wouldn’t pass so ended up having D&C. For me it was the best thing and I wish I’d opted for it straight away. I like how predictable & final it was. Of course you have to weigh up against the risks x
