Speech delay

My little boy turns two in a week and he only started saying his little words a few months ago… ie dada, mama, dog, car etc but his actual speech has not progressed anymore since. My son is showing strong traits of ADHD and finds it hard to sit and listen when I try and say new words. Im naturally a worrier as his little friends are saying a lot more. I’m just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this too. And any advice to help would be massively appreciated.

Have you tried doing any baby signs with him? Try not to worry, even if you do get a speech and language referral they are just there to help and support you. All at their own pace. And I know about pace, my little girl never crawled and didn't walk til 20 months! Now I look back and wonder why I was so worried!

@Rachel he currently signs some things ie more, please, thank you and snack. And have found he is using the words with them now too just very hit and miss. Speech and language saw him the other week and said unfortunately they won’t help until he’s a bit older or has been speaking for longer as he has only just started… it’s just upsetting as he is always on the go and struggles to concentrate… every child is just so different I think I just need to chill and enjoy these moments 😂🥰

My son is exactly the same and also he’s on the waiting list for adhd and asd xx

@Poppy oh bless you, my little boys just been seen for adhd and said to come back in 3 months time to see if he progresses. Unfortunately they said they can’t do much until the age of 6 😭😭 is your little boy speaking yet?xx

@Jade he’s not speaking at all but if you message me I have some advice xx

Check his tongue. I have the same issue and it turns out he’s tongue tied.

@Stacey he still makes noises though, so I’m not sure x

We have the health visitor coming with another lady who will do songs and activities with my little boy to see if they can keep encouraging him while we wait for speech and therapy! Has yours mentioned anything like this?

@Lara yes they did…They said they will refer me to a class where I go weekly to do activities to help with speech development x
