3 year old boy attention

I wanted to know what other boy mom’s experience with their sons. My son is very active and full of energy. He also appears to have a short attention span of about 6 minutes when it comes to doing activities. He goes to Montessori school and he only does his work if the teacher is sitting right next to him. But playing with his dinosaurs or cars he can do all day. All my friends have girls and they seem calmer and listen more. Thanks

Hey! I’m right there with you with my 3 year old. I can’t even say his attention span reaches 6 minutes at a time when doing activities. He’s so active and just wants to run around and play and gets into everything, but I’ve just chopped it up to just that he’s a 3 year old boy and try not to overthink it. I don’t have any advice by any means but can definitely relate.

My son is full of energy, we can take him to the gym or park and he will run for an hour and still have more energy in the tank when we get home. He historically has very little patience for any sit down activity like puzzles or drawing, although lately i found he can sit for maybe 10 minutes if he’s doing play dough or stamps. The only thing that can really hold his attention are cars, and even then it’s accompanied by singing at the top of his lungs or racing and crashing around the room. He is basically never calm and trying to get him to slow down or be a bit quieter feels impossible.

My mum works in schools and says they work on the premise that kids have an attention span of a minute per year of their life. So six minutes is good!

Yours does 6 minutes?? I’m jealous 😅 my son is very smart and active but good lord his attention doesn’t last longer than 3 minutes unless it’s TV, which is less than ideal

Child development specialist 🌟 5-10 mins in an appropriate amount of time on a single task for a 3 year old 🤍 boys are wired differently needing more full body learning, movement and deeper pressure/tough play. Boys need more outdoor time meaning they need more grounding and negative ions from the earth, grass, dirt and fresh air. Check out some grounding sheets for his bed 🤍 also when you make a smoothie next add a cup of spinach or broccoli .Boys tend to metabolize food quicker so they need less quick burning energy and long burning energy. Proteins and greens. This is also good for girls obviously 🌟 I notice more unfocused behaviors from my child and others when they’ve had more than 30 mins of screen time within the first 3 hours of being awake. I’m guilty of throwing on a show in the morning and going back to bed for 45 mins, but I notice more irritability in the day. If we do something together first (making pancakes or brushing our teeth and hair) and then a show. 🤍

Boys have so much energy and need movement. Totally accurate and what i deal with on a daily basis. Engaging them in various new things helps our house a lot and a lot of outside time for sure.
