Aptamil Pepti or Nutramigen

We’ve got a drs appointment today for suspected cmpa health visitor wants daughter on a 6 week trial. Which formula should I push for more out of the aptamil or the nutramigen I’ve heard a lot of babies refuse this or is it a case that we’ll probably end up trying both at some point anyway?

My baby refused nutrimagen and gagged so i went hospital and was gave pepti 1 been 4 weeks on that its caused terrible wind baby is still very sicky on it and all symptoms still there skin problems too. So today will be switching to sma Alfamino 😔🤞

@Ansa I’ve heard of a few people putting vanilla essence in the nutramigen but unsure if it actually works

Aptamil is more palatable, but every baby is different so what works for one baby doesn't work for another

Nutramigen is stronger tasting so may take longer to adjust to; in terms of ingredients, I didn’t like the fact that the first few ingredients on Nutramigen is glucose syrup and vegetable oils. Howeverrrrrrr, I’ve found out Aptamil use bovaer fed cows for their milk which I’m not happy with x

It's not so much what baby would prefer They contain different protiens so baby may be able to handle one but not the other We started on nutramigen although due to her symptoms was changed to neocate I would say though to which one you'd like to try first is if baby will drink room temp milk as nutritional has to be made eith room temp boiled water

My baby liked Aptamil (I tasted it and to me it tastes like banana skin if you were to eat it), nutramigen was nasty- my baby kept vomiting after every bottle and now we’re on neocate LCP- all symptoms have gone now and it tastes like rotten fish although my baby took to it without having to add anything- I think it’s because it was the first time he drank something and wasn’t in pain. You can try adding ethanol free vanilla essence or nesquick and then weaning the baby off it

I asked my GP what milk was best and he suggested Nutramigen, my daughter did really well on it although took 3 days for her to accept it, however every poop was green and she was constantly sore. Due to supply issues, she was moved onto pepti, but unfortunately, this didn't agree with her causing blood in her stools instantly, so we ended up in urgent care, and she was prescribed neocate. She is now basically able to tolerate all dairy except neat cows' milk. She was 1 year old on Christmas day xx

You won’t know until you try. Mine happily took Nutramigen and had no bad side effects. Her reflux didn’t improve though so we moved onto Neocate but she was sick after every bottle so we are back on Nutramigen. Every baby will react differently so it’s trial and error

@Kristina we were originally on cow & gate but she really didn’t tolerate it we took her drs they shrugged it off saying it’s just reflux so we switched her to goats milk formula this has helped with her winding but her tummy’s still very swollen and she’s struggling with other things as well took her to the drs for her reflux follow up appointment and the dr told me she’s definitely got a allergy 😑 just so annoying as the other dr didn’t listen to me despite me saying the HV wanted to trial a milk for CMPA he was like it’s not that it’s reflux so we’re nearly 3 weeks into the goats milk formula where as if he’d of listened to me in the first place we could’ve been trialing this other milk by now 😬 xx

I’d say aptimil pepti my son is on that, but I found he brings up back up a lot as it is so fan 🤣

So thin sorry

We use aptamil pepti and carobel thickener as it’s thin and was making his reflux worse originally. So if your little one has reflux too a thickener is something to consider. It’s working really well for us now and the transition was fairly easy for him as we were on aptamil 1 before. My GP said we had to start on pepti as there’s a ladder to go through. I think it’s cost really but she said to do 4 weeks of this then to try something else if it didn’t agree. Not sure if that’ll be the same everywhere though.
