They are never accurate! My second according to ultrasound would have been 9lbs….. he was 7.5 born at 40w1d. This is one reason I prefer midwives over OB, they only do ultrasounds later on if they feel something is out of the ordinary other wise your last ultrasound is between 19-25 weeks. My sister in-law had one OB tell her that her baby was too big for my sister’s body type, changed OB for a second opinion and got told her baby is on the small side!
My last scan 28/01/25 predicted baby was 9lbs. My baby was born 31/01/25 and weighed 8lbs 7oz!
My 38 week scan was showing 10lbs and she was born 39+4 at 7lbs
I know they’re not often accurate - people told me to take them with a pinch of salt and that there’s a 20% leeway or something - but I wouldn’t listen to people saying they are never accurate either. We had one at 30 weeks, baby was measuring 4lbs something, they said on average they put on 1/2lb per week at that point, so predicted 9lb something by our due date. Baby boy was born at 40+3, weighing 9lb 13oz - so proof that they are sometimes right 😂 (I get that may be rare that it’s spot on, but it does happen!)
I was measuring big so i had a scan at 38 weeks to check and was told baby would be around 8ib. He was 10ib born on his due date so the tape measure had been more accurate! I was told both have a 20% leeway as well.
I would say mines was pretty accurate I had an ultrasound exactly a week before I gave birth her estimated weight was just over 6lb and she was born 6lb 8oz
And that scan was at 37+2
Yeah mine was accurate - had one at 37weeks saying he was 7lbs 10oz. He arrived 2 weeks later 8lbs 10oz so that sounds about right!
I only ever hear from people that their third trimester scans were way off for size
